Hot Chip warm up gig Birmingham 20th Feb

Was at Brixton last night, was kind of underwhelmed. I just don't think they're that good live, some of the songs don't translate that well. Point in case, Huarache Lights - song of the year for me in the recorded take, but to me it's really crappy live. Just doesn't work.

Some other songs - let's say 'Hold On' for example - are fucking incredible live.

My opinion of course. Happy for those who absolutely love every minute!

 

see my opinion on Hurache Lights changed after seeing them live but the other way round to you - thought it was okay on record, nothing special, but after seeing them open with it at Glastonbury it's become one of my favourite songs by them. such a great opener

looking through their setlists now and they've quietly compiled such a fantastic selection of songs. they're pretty much playing greatest hits sets at the moment and they're bloody brilliant. really wish i'd got tickets to see them on this tour - didn't think i'd have anybody to go with, and my friend (who was with me at Glastonbury and hadn't really ever listened to Hot Chip) today asked if they were touring so we could go see them. fuck sake

Yeah I agree their setlists are remarkable. Just zips from one massive banger to another. And even then they miss a few out!

Heh I felt similar at Glasto!

I adore them on record, but ..something doesn't click for me live....well saying that, for me it seemed like every other song was brilliant. Its odd, i find it hard to describe really.

im the opposite - better live than on record. Only minor quibble last night was that they from load the set so much that it slowed a bit after Ready for the Floor. As said, though, I'm not a diehard so they may be real fan favourites or something.

 

I will be interested to see if they can come off this run of form and step up to headline, say, Bestival.

Seen the Chip 4 times now and they've only midly disappointed once but that was just after seeing LCD play on their double header tour. The other 3 times were at festivals. They're a great festival band. No fucking around and packed with hits from start to finish.

Where was the disappointing gig? I felt the same after seeing them after LCD in Manchester.

That's the one. Don't know whether it was an off day for Hot Chip or the fact that LCD would have been a better headliner.
