as I said, my kids (and my sisters kids) went to schools without a uniform policy, and no-one turned up naked. Where I work we have no dress code. People aren't as weird or difficult as you imagine.

If there's a no-nakedness rule, there's a dress code. Why do you find that literal fact so difficult to understand?

And while no one might have pushed the limits at your places, that doesn't mean no one will.

As you're specifying a rule, why will you not define that rule and it's limits? Do you think all people have identical thoughts to you?

(I'm exceedingly pleased to say most don't. Most have coherent thoughts, thank god).

PS: how do you know no one turned up naked? Are you thinking the school would announce it to all parents if someone had?

Are you under the impression that no one has ever turned up "inappropriately dressed" at those places and asked to adjust their attire?

I think you're living in the fantasy of your own lack of thought.

There was one secretary who used to come to work with ever increasing amounts of flesh being exposed. Her manager had a word with her. A dress code didn't need to be introduced

so there is a dress code then, no outfits that show too much flesh. Right-o.

People need to be told to not turn up at work naked, to understand that it's inappropriate?

But what is "naked" tony?

A naked ankle? A naked shoulder? Too much breast showing? A nipple? What? Are speedos appropriate for men and bikinis for women? What??

Are you really so dumb as to not understand that you are laying out a rule but refusing to define it?

well, I was a parent governor, and that sort of thing usually gets mentioned.

People DO turn up inappropriately dressed from time to time. That happens more when a strict dress code (especially at schools). Knee jerk reactions, a new set of rules being put in place, is the last resort of the unimaginative

so you say there's no rules and then admit that there are.

Do you ever wonder why I so often point out that you talk nonsense?

Feel free. Why am I being an idiot?

If there are restrictions about dress, even just in a "don't turn up near naked", it's effectively a dress code. All you seem to be objecting to is that it's formalised and detailed, when that is actually what makes it clear and easiest to manage/follow.

I don't like strict dress codes and plan to never wear a tie again, but trusting entirely to common sense just makes it harder to treat everyone equally. Why risk the problems of having to speak to someone about an ever increasing display of flesh when you can just formalise it in a paragraph everyone understands?
