VCK
Weren't New Order strongly rumoured for 2012? In fact, I can recall someone leaking the line-up a few hours before it was announced and it was pretty much spot on, except New Order were subbing Kasabian and Florence was subbing The Cure. I wonder if they pulled out last minute.
Gucci Piggy
No it was just a standard fake poster with them on it.
JSmurphy
I've seen Chvrches make and appearance in almost everyone's predictions so I gave them a proper listen and they're great. Clearest Blue is so damn catchy.

VCK
No it was just a standard fake poster with them on it. Yeah, I remember that poster doing the rounds, but this was different, the line-up was exactly the same as how it actually turned out to be. I remember people saying that there was absolutely no chance of Bombay Bicycle Club being as high as 3rd.
alan77
I know this is 2016 thread but thoughts on Bombay Bicycle Club making the step up to headliner or atleast subbheadliner in 2017 as they are sure to be promoting a new record by then and they are a reading staple band
ClemFandango97
Could Sub, there is a 2017 thread though if you wanna post that in there
VCK
Headlining NME is roughly equivalent to playing 3rd or 4th on the Main Stage, so they kind of stagnated with that 2012 Main Stage slot when they played last year. Their next album would have to be a big one if they were to be pushed up.
rawaudioinput
Just after they released their last album it took them a while to sell out Brixton IIRC but then by the end of their campaign they sold out Earls Court; they are probably sub-size now

kingcrawler
I wouldn't go as far as to call them future headliners but I can see them subbing on their next album. That last album seemed to get quite a lot of airplay on radio one and as rawaudioinput says they moved onto bigger venues with it too. justanothername
Don't see how BBC are going to become headliners? Their last album didn't give them much of a boost in popularity so I don't see what else they can do to increase their popularity this time

But they played around the same position in 2014 as they in 2015, infact it could be argued that it was lower with Nero having a closing set after them (who were also busier than BBC)

They seemed to grow in popularity with the last album though (despite festival slots) so I can see them moving up on their next album even if they wouldn't be a particularly strong sub. dentalplan
Yo I didn't even know they played the last ever show at Earl's Court and David Gilmour came onstage for a couple of songs. That's really something, particularly for such a set of shitehawks.
Lumz
Could see something like this... (minus NWA but worth a try) Foals Frank Turner Catfish & The Bottlemen Kanye West "Special guests" NWA The 1975 Foo Fighters Fall Out Boy Enter Shikari

oneoftherest
For what it's worth and I had the same reaction you lot will, the word going round the guest campsite was that who they have in mind for next years headliners was Jay Z and The 1975
oneoftherest
That came from a very reliable source, he also gave me who was going to be supporting LTA (As It Is and Moose Blood) which was announced this morning, back in May time
dentalplan
And because this person is privy to the support acts of some club gigs, they're also going to know the proposed headliners for a massive festival?
JSmurphy
The 1975's next album will have to be a massive hit for them to be even considered in the discussion of headliners. Given there hasn't even been a single as of yet from their new album I struggle to believe why R&L would consider them as a headliners. Jay Z is an odd one too. His last album I thought was pretty good, but his only new project is rumoured to be an album with Beyonce and I don't think they're the type of act R&L would book to headline. mrtourette
Jay-Z and The 1975 won't headline R&L next year, if they do I'll punish myself for being wrong by buying a ticket and watching them.
