Lineup 2016

Ah okay, people seem to think she's at Bestival this year though?

By 'big fest' I meant like Glasto/R&L/TITP/V/IOW, but yeah the thinking seems to be that they have her on exclusive, and that Glasto are unlikely to book an act after their first summer of touring a new album or something, so seems she'll be more likely to be at any of the other big 4 next year. I'll probably go with her headlining TITP and R&L as long as the album doesn't flop.

Their popularity is increasing. They sold out a fair chunk of the venues on their UK tour, including places like the Barras that they hadn't sold out before, and WELL in advance. Plus, they were already in high positions there, and I'd imagine that's because of the massive crowds they seem to pull there.

They're definitely an oddity at that festival and are likely to be pushed into a pretty big position next time out. It's probably the only place they could get away with it as well.

EDIT: That was at dentalplan btw.

Alright. I just figured as it seemed they have been stuck playing the same venues for ages now and the exact same festival slots at Download and R+L since 2012. Maybe they won't drop down the lineup but I don't think they'll be pushed up either. Maybe a side-step onto NME headline?

I'm sure I read somewhere that Shikari have admitted that they could play a couple of arena dates, but don't want to as they prefer the intensity of smaller venues?

Anyway, I think that they will either headline the NME next time they play or be pushed up to sub.

Aye, if they announced two or three arena dates instead of 20+ small venues, they could probably sell a load of tickets for them. I for one would go and see a one off London arena date like Bring Me the Horizon did, and if they're big enough for it, I'd say Enter Shikari are too.

Why people think Royal Blood will go from NME to 3rd on main as an only UK show to then sub year after year I don't know.

We'll they're playing third from top this year, will most likely be releasing an album before next Summer, and they're a perfect band for R&L to book at the moment. The Jake Bugg of rock music.

Why are they most likely releasing before next summer?

I reckon they'll next play as a headliner. Subbing just seems like prolonging the inevitable which they have no need to do.

NME Headline would be a good slot for them. It'd depend on whether they want them in the tent though. It'd certainly be the logical step though.

Yeah I think if they're there again that's the best slot for them. I consider it on par in terms of size with 3rd and I don't think the Mindsweep has gained them many fans, but neither has it lost them any.

How about this as a revised prediction for next years NME headliners

- The Vaccines

- Enter Shikari (Closing set from Mazjer Lazer)

- Oliver Heldens

Agree entirely with that. As the biggest 'rock' band to have broke through in the UK since god knows when you can tell Melvin is gasping to make them headliners. If the album was a few songs longer so they had a few more songs in the bag I reckon he'd have put them as subs this year. Also the 'exclusivity' part of their booking this year and Ellis' comments on wanting them at T makes me think they'll do T/IOW and possibly a few others next year and wait until 2017 for their next R&L gig.

Who???

Edit; Just listened to this Gecko song. Woeful. Just sounds like a knock off of all the other shite they play in clubs.

That Gecko song is the pits, it needs to be banned

Agree entirely, but it's a name that has been mentioned a fair bit for R&L and he has decent slots at T & V. Sadly it's what sells these days. This years announcement has taught me to give up all hope of having Interpol/Weezer/Placebo type bands in these slots again.

Dunno really, just assumed there would be one. I guess what I really mean is that if there's an album released before next year I expect them to sub.

I'm not so sure I'd talk about headlining yet but I can see them skipping the subbing slot possibly. I don't think there is a chance they'll be back next year.

The only way I can see Glasto still opting for Flo next year is that if it is a Bestival slot, the album will have come out but being where it is, it's a fest far enough away from the mainland UK festivals which means they'll still have them the 1st year they can play mainland UK one's. But I reckon Grants post won't be far away. They'll be at T anyway, it's a sure thing headliner for me, along with Calvin Harris.

I think the reason that tickets flew out for Shikari's tour is because it was their first proper set of UK dates for over two years

While promoting Flash Flood of Colour they did three pretty extensive jaunts over a period of 14 months which is obviously going to effect demand on the later runs

I'd say overall they're probably slightly less popular than they were back in 2012 (the new album has seemingly got a lot less radio support than the last one) but not by a substantial margin

Regarding arena dates I think a one-off show at Wembley could do okay if they really push it as being a special occasion and perhaps market it as a greatest hits show rather than a setlist so focused on The Mindsweep/Flash Flood

I can't see them climbing much further up the line up though, an NME headline slot would suit them perfectly

Yeah I don't see Shikari moving up at all, and, unless they have a massive breakout album that's truly outstanding (their best album is still Take to the skies by far, everything since has been a let down IMO), I think this is pretty much the peak of their popularity, and they're only gonna get smaller from here on out.

Anyway I think/hope the headliners for next year will be:

FOB

Foo's

Pearl Jam

I find it amazing that Pearl Jam have only done 3 festival gigs in the UK in the past decade, and I think it would be a good way to finish off the Lightning Bolt world tour and for them to have a break and move onto the next album. IF FOB don't turn up this year (which I no longer do) I think they're almost a certainty for being pushed up to headline, considering they could, and probably should, have subbed in 2013, and had the second biggest crowd for the day they were on, have since smashed subbing Download, and are doing a fairly large 8 date stadium tour. And then I just have a feeling that Foo's will be back next year.

I think Enter Shikari have a bigger dedicated fan base but smaller transient fans following what is trendy i.e Radio 1 sock puppets. Overall they are getting bigger crowds for their own shows but wouldn't be as big a draw at a festival.

FOB didn't have a big crowd at Leeds at all, it was spread out but not dense. And they sucked. They far from smashed Download. If they get headline status anywhere I'd be amazed despite their best efforts in bringing out pop songs that Britney spears could just as easily perform.

I thought Fall Out Boy were fun at Leeds, I arrived about halfway through - whenever Foxes was on stage. But they're definitely not getting bigger, their last 2 albums were balls apart from I think the first three tracks on Save Rock & Roll which I liked.

Could see them getting away with subbing R&L, but headline? Nah, no way.

FOB playing 'Saturday' in 2013 was one of the best and worst Leeds Festival moments for me. It was great because it's an awesome song and I love that they played such an oldie. It was tragic because nobody else anywhere near me and my friend even knew what song it was and looked at us as if we had the plague because we were enjoying it so much.
