Weather thread 2015

Yeah I can't agree with those who say that last year was just fine - storms that bring the whole event to a standstill and throw the schedule out of whack are not to be encouraged, and the level of mud made getting around the site pretty challenging.

I agree with this. I didn't arrive until Thursday and had to wear wellies the whole weekend. Any festival in which i have to wear wellies the entire duration can't really be deemed a success weather wise.

Although we did have some pretty good sunshine and decent temperatures for the majority of the festival.

UK Outlook for Thursday 11 Jun 2015 to Thursday 25 Jun 2015:

There is some uncertainty in the likely weather type through this period, however high pressure will have become established to the north of the UK. This would lead to drier, warmer conditions for many, these perhaps most prolonged across the north, but it may also allow some more unsettled, perhaps thundery weather to move up from continental Europe and affect the south of the UK. This trend looks like it may continue into the third week of June with drier than average conditions in the north, however some unsettled spells are also likely to push in from the west at times, as well some thundery outbreaks also coming up from the south.

I loved last year's storm.

A great moment

I really enjoyed it too. I was walking back to my tent in Bushy Fields to see my friends and as I was walking close to Beat Hotel I could feel static over my body and a real change in the atmosphere. So I walked a bit faster back to my tent and got there a few minutes before the storm really hit. I really loved it! I don't really fancy a repeat performance this year but I did like it while it was happening.

Last year's weather perfectly demonstrates the dreaded possibility of the nice weather peaking too early.

Very true, I remember 4 weeks leading up to last year it was beautiful weather. The Tuesday and Wednesday were great ... and then! As usual it pissed down on Thursday night and then the lightning storm. When the weather gets too hot then you get the storms , so a nice medium would be great :)

We were in JP with all the electrics turned off and the water pouring down the sides of the tent like a waterfall when an old guy with a big white beard started playing the acoustic guitar over a megaphone.... but I think about 2 people at the front of the tent could hear him!

Was thinking the other day how many times Ive read a mudbath prediction from Nal over the years. It might well rival Mardy's total for slagging off reformed 90s no-hopers being rumoured to play.

Hehehe, and there was me thinking I'd been really good in not saying what I really think about the Charlatans playing the Other stage on the Friday.

I did too. There's nothing like a good lightning show. Last year was the best storm since 2009:

The storm in 2005 took it a bit too far though. It's one of the few times I've been genuinely scared by the weather. That said, looking back I'm glad I was there - the events of that Friday morning in Pennards were an incredible thing to witness.

When was the storm in 09? Thursday evening/Friday morning?

I seem to remember Friday morning being a disaster.

Thursday evening I think. I don't remember much - just that I watched it from the Park and it was a great show.

As I recall the site appeared to be approaching the mudbath point of no return on Friday morning, but then it stopped raining and the ground quickly recovered.

Twas Thursday night, rained until lunchtime Friday, the night of the Michael Jackson rumours that turned out to be true. I was that pissed though it didn't bother me at all, I can remember sitting on the grass behind a fish and chip van drunkenly scoffing said fish and chips at around 12 midnight.
