majormajormajor
The latest GFS is looking a lot more positive than yesterday's runs... Edited June 11, 2015 by majormajormajor
devonhammer
Got one of those Facebook memory things and five years ago today I predicted/wished/prayed "Glastonbury will be dry". I have reposted it. My work here is done.
Homer
I'd say the last mudbath was 2007. 1998 was the last one before that in my opinion. The rest have been hard going for a day or so, but that's it. Agreed.
siblin
The latest GFS is looking a lot more positive than yesterday runs... I'm no expert but that looks pretty damned good and stable. A high in the prevailing direction, I doubt it'd be overcome by lows in the northeast over land. As long as that low hasn't been over glasto on Thursday/Friday that is

Although there's zero confidence this far out... if it holds as is, we're probably all clear until Saturday sometime at the very least. Come on the Azores High! It's funny how I learnt how to read these maps purely from being obsessed with Glastonbury. Edited June 11, 2015 by majormajormajor

wetflame
Great stuff, weather's going to be sunny throughout and I don't need my wellies! Time to close this thread and never read it again!
mjsell
It's funny how I learnt how to read these maps purely from being obsessed with Glastonbury. Spot on, I've learnt more on weather in the last week than the rest of my life combined. I don't know why I'm so much more concerned about the weather at Glastonbury than I have ever been at any other festival I have been to. Spindles
Welcome back Devonhammer, good to see your updates again. I had some wavering in my positivity before the weekend, but am back on form now. I bought some suncream today in preparation for the blazing sun that will clearly figure largely throughout the week. Koroviev
I think it's given to expect rain over 5 days in the UK, it's just fingers crossed we can avoid heavy summer storms. I remember Latitude 2013 (and then Leeds the month later was an absolute monster of a mud bath) was glorious and even that had a few hours of light rain in the morning every day but not enough to churn up the ground or be at peak times for it to be trodden in. Feeling cautiously optimistic this year though. Edited June 11, 2015 by Koroviev

Tigerdragon
Feels a lot like the election. Cautious optimism as graphs come in showing far more red than one could ever have hoped to expect, titillating thoughts of 'what if...', before a wave of blue comes crashing in and leaves everyone in (soggy) disbelief. SonOfTroyMcClure
Last year was my first, and as I remember it although it was sunny after those downpours, the damage was done and the ground got churned up to a muddy mess for the rest of the festival. The sun just made it stickier. Thanks! For a while I was confusedly thinking you were just tracking what the rainfall was like on that particular day during the month to give an average of what we could expect, but that doesn't make sense. This does! 2014 did that horrible thing where the weather would get nice and warm for a bit, then the rain would arrive and destroy any hope of the site drying out. The whole German/French thing got out of hand. I posted a picture of Herr Flik and a year later it all descended into chaos. Best avoided - and anyway, there's the NFRNFC thread for messing about. Shame really, but there we go.

Spindles
Yeah, it's a shame it all ended badly. Some of us may have overstepped the mark in our appreciation of the German form. Corking afternoon here in the midlands, my son has gone to IoW this weekend..will be interested to see how the much vaunted bad weather turns out. Definitely. Although not in 2007 territory - I would still regard last year as a muddy festival! I have photos of us next to the glade after Cassette boy on Sunday still standing in 2 inches of mud! We did have some nice sunny conditions in between showers though!

doogie
My partner is a bit of a mathemagician and weather nerd, he wrote up an article documenting the weather history of all past Glastos and predicting the odds for 2015. We've got a spreadsheet and everything. http://festivalsandgigs.com/history-and-predictions-glastonbury-festival-weather That's interesting, and it supports the Atlantic Multidecadal Oscillation theory, which suggests that between about 1970 and the late 1990s the Atlantic Ocean was cooler than average, causing higher pressure and dryer summers over the UK. Since the late 1990s, the Atlantic has been warmer, causing damper summers (and muddier Glastonburys!) It's been reported that the cycle is on the turn, which means the Atlantic may be cooling down again, meaning dryer summers (and less mud at Glastonbury!) for the next few years. Wooderson
Good to see some f&cking sense being spoken about 2010 on this thread. If only I had taken a photo of The Nal in the Pyramid field with his frog and cat umbrellas. Pathetic.

Canada is a safer bet as Mounties tend to be fully clothed.
