Convince me to move to London

London is fantastic to visit, but I couldn't live there ever. I like the north, if I could choose anywhere in the UK to live it would be Manchester simply because I love the city. Despite the fucking awful weather. The social scene in Manc is the best outside of London IMHO.

Well tbh, other than Saturdays it's only uni students out, so most of them aren't even from Newcastle, and I guess the same as in any city really.

I never cuddled and watched Made in Chelsea with one, though.

All the women from Newcastle are usually in York screeching on Saturday nights in massive groups of fat hen parties! *shudder*

Not great for the poor people trying to find a place now

True. :)

My initial comment was meant just as statement of the reality, of it being a popular place.

I keep hearing of the difficulties in renting, I guess I was lucky to stay in the same place for the nine years before I managed to buy ... and i'm aware just how much they've gone up because I bought (very luckily at the bottom of the market).

Estate agents are now pushing leaflets thru our door, telling us that houses are selling for 10% above asking price.

Birmingham has greatly improved in recent years especially around the canals.

great live music scene, nightlife has improved ...easy to get to other cities around the uk

(just wouldn't live to far from the centre as it goes downhill quite quickly)

Jewellery quarter is an up and coming place to live as well.

Ive been thinking about moving to a city ...nothing wrong with Shrewsbury but would live to experience something bigger. I am also tempted by Nottingham.

Move to Manchester, there's plenty to do, it's ten times cheaper and it's not full of fucking bankers.

Its only full of bankers in the week, they return to the home counties at the weekend mostly :P

really? you've lived here for years (decades?) and you dont know how to have an incredibly cheap day/night out? or where the affordable places to live are?

But then you get a daily stabbing in these areas! Swings and roundabouts!

London is great, if you can afford somewhere to live, you have the best public transport of the UK, almost every single band in the world will tour here at some point and wide range of boozer depending on what you are after.

On the other side, some Londoners thought voting Boris in was a good idea as his a laugh.

Not in the west there isn't.

I've had a few nights out in Hammersmith at decent priced places before, what I always find is people who complain about not finding a cheap pub will only go to the drinking holes right next to the tube stations without going any further which will be the tourist trap over priced places.

Yes I was being flippant really,I used to live in Hammersmith but what I mean really is a night out in town can cost a fortune ie prices to get in,drinks and taxis etc.

I live in the west midlands at the mo and everything is cheaper here, well not everything but you know what I mean.

I am actually struggling to think of cheap pub in Hammersmith apart from the weatherspoons though

Why are you paying to get into places and getting taxis when there's multiple areas in London you can go to that are free and is apart of your nightbus route?

I found the Old Suffolk and Belushis ok price wise in Hammersmith, I've not been there in awhile as I mostly stick to Camden, Holloway or Brixton.

The simple solution to nights out getting expensive is to buy a keg of good ale from your local brewery and have your mates round.

Pub atmospheres are great, but I'd far prefer missing out on that than drinking shit beer in a spoons.

I think the beer in the Spoons is quite good, the ones I've been into anyway.

I don' go out in London that much anymore, normally a birthday or something so the venues etc are always picked.

I haven't been on a nightbus in 20 years, they used to be dreadfull things,I have heard they have improved but when the night has finished I just want to get home pronto really so just get a cab.

I guess I'm just lazy.
