halfpint
Hi Have been to Kendal a number of times but personally never had to leave site during the festival. Also go with Oxfam to maybe different for us.... I have a friend who wants to go but doesnt want to camp - only lives 25 mins away. They said they wont be able to go as Kendal dont do pass outs..but this is from their website - "CAN WE HAVE A PASS OUT FROM THE FESTIVAL IF WE NEEDED TO GO OFF SITE OVER THE WEEKEND? I’m sorry but as with most festivals we operate a no pass out system. Please bring everything you need for the weekend. You have a General Store selling essentials, a cash machine onsite, and plenty of food traders and bars so you will never go hungry or thirsty!" Is this right?? I'm sure I have seen people coming and going and also every festival I've been to you can. Surely your wristband is your pass out and if you choose to leave then come back thats your choice...you may be parked further away but thats the only downside I can see. Advice gratefully received. LOCHLAND5
Hi half pint , you have always been able to leave many people use hotels b and bs and so on locally and a lot of locals just go in and out. Problem you have is where to park there is issues regarding cars getting dumped on residents areas and so on , the festival claim to clamping down on such things and in their defence the ins and outs of people get harder each year , I've made the decision to camp this year basically because it's not easy to get out of anymore ! Which also makes harder for the thieves and fence jumpers . You can get in and out basically at the drop off point but it's a trail and there will be no where to put a car . halfpint
Cheers Lochland - so you cant park in normal weekend car parking and then come and go? I completely understand about the resident parking problems and I guess all the extra traffic will be a right pain in the arse. But just seems a shame that somebody that lives so locally cant stay at home and still go.
thurlow84
I know people who drive in from carlisle each day, they park in the weekend parking and just move the car each night. They've never had any problems so far
widnesphilsmith81
Hiya, I've only ever really been to the Leeds Festival (and V once for a night) but there has always been a bus to the supermarket. Guess this is not the case at Kendal? Does this not mean there are huge queues for the onsite supermarket?? Guess this is not the case at Kendal? Does this not mean there are huge queues for the onsite supermarket?? I wouldn't call it a supermarket! Think the newsagent at V. Its definitely nowhere near the size of the Leeds one, which is quite impressive to be fair
ramragon
It's basically a stall that sells things like milk, water, bread, fruit juice, bacon and eggs etc. Basic stuff you might want, nothing extravagant ! As for queues, depends what time you went but never saw any silly queues, certainly got served quicker than at the bars Edited February 18, 2015 by ramragon
qualiscouse
We have been to kendal the last 2 years. Stayed in a hotel both times. 2013 we just asked for a pass out at the box office after telling them we were staying off site and were given a scrap of paper as a pass out. Last year we emailed them in advance and were given a proper pass out, a bit like a ticket with a hologram on. Never showed them either time. Our hotel was full of people with wrist bands on. We parked where we were told on the Friday, quite far from the entrance, but sat and sun managed to park within 5 mins of the entrance
Mr_Grump
Last time I went I stayed in a pub in Askham (only 5 mins drive/20 min walk) and walked in and out every day - can't remember getting a pass out, just showed my wristband. Comfy Bean
Aye, I`ve left the site in the past and got back in by just showing the wristband. There was a bit of an issue in 2012 i think when they tried to enforce some daft - one booze run from the car rule - which seems to still cause the confusion. I was out to pick the Mrs up from Penrith Station last year on the Saturday afternoon and returned no probs with a case of the cider under my arm. halfpint
Thanks for the replies. I did tweet the festival and they said that you can get a pass out is special circumstances as they are trying to keep traffic to a minimum but does sound like even without this it wont be to bad to get in and out.
