Thinking I might return to Park Home/Dairy this year after spending last year in Hitchin Hill, the walk up the hill at night is a slog and I think you see more being on the otherside of the railway track as you pass more.

Park Home/Dairy is ideal as it doesn't super super packed like Penards/Oxylers but you are still not that far away from most places that and found it pretty easy to pop back in the day for extra supplies.

How quickly does Park Home/Dairy get filled up? I have no idea what time silly SEECOACHES will get me to the festival. I like space o sit outside and have pancakes for breakfast in the mornings!

Seems to depend on the year and rain/mud when enterting :P

2010 we among the last in the big morning queue and Diary didn't seem to get that packed 2011 we got in slighly earlier like 9:30/10am and it seemed alot more packed and almost full.

2013, I slept in the car parks and was in by 9 but the bit around in Park Home had plenty of space all day and could have squeezed a few more tents in around us.

We shall rock up early to try to get our usual pitch off the railway line on Oxlyers. Not a particularly sociable area but it's central and we tend not to spend a lot of time at camp. I keep trying to persuade the other half to go a bit further out (Dairy Ground) to make the trek in and out a little less painful but to no avail!

Much nearer the action, not a trek to get anywhere. Enters into Williams Green area which has really good food and stuff to do on Wednesday and Thursday.

The 'hill of death' is nothing if the sort if you're able bodied and relatively fit.

West is probably a bit quieter and you'll certainly be closer to the gate, but once inside two or three camping fields away from anything

Cheers mate, great help. The 13 year old has decided!!

I like having space so we camp in Bushy Ground and love it. I've also had a large tent the past two years and don't feel right taking up popular camping spots with a large tent.

Mind you, it felt spacious until two middle aged men threw their tiny pop up tents down so close that they were touching the side of our tent. I don't understand why unless they were hoping our tent would provide shade or shelter. It irritated me because it meant we could hear every noise they made and vice versa, plus they were disgusting, they left the place a tip and didn't even take their tents home if I recall correctly. There was no need for them to be camped so close to us, anyone who walked through Bushy Ground would know that there's more than enough space!

Bushy Ground is nice because it's a 5 minute walk to the Other Stage. You don't get disturbed by Arcadia etc when you're trying to sleep (Dance Village isn't that noisy), it was one of the few fields that had compost toilets two years ago, although I think now they're trying to put them in most fields, and generally it has a nice chilled atmosphere.

Only downside I found was there was only one tap for a massive area. I actually wrote to the festival office and politely asked them to reconsider the toilet and tap situation in Bushy this year because they'd reduced the number of toilets and the tap was nowhere near the toilets... the toilets were in the middle and the tap was on the edge of the field! So hopefully that'll change this year :)

Was tempted by Oxlyers but want somewhere a bit quieter and further away from the hustle and bustle. Thinking somewhere around John Peel like Bushy or Pylon Ground. Close to coach station and still quiet central. Did bottom of Park Home last time I went (2013) but was too far from Other/JP/Pyramid for me.

  • 4 weeks later...

Hello, will be going for the 2nd time this year - stayed in Bushy Ground last year which was nice and roomy but a bit too far of a trek from SE corner.

Hoping to get into Dairy Ground/Park Home this year but the coach doesn't have us arriving until 2pm... do 4 of us stand a chance of getting a space in either of these sites?

Group of 5 people pitched either end of our campsite on Thursday morning (Park Home). Bit stretched out but you might get lucky. You'll have more luck in Dairy for sure.

Thanks - yeh figured Park Home would be a bit of a stretch, and Oxylers and Pennards out of the equation.

Anyone stay in Rivermead, Bushy or Paines last year? What was it like after the downpour on Friday? Did the water drain away ok?

Since 08 we have been in Bailey's but it is filling up quicker now and we will probably not be onsite until lunchtime on the Wednesday and we will have two large tents to put up so thinking of alternatives

I stayed in Bushy. The campsite was fine (we stayed opposite the loo's across the path - about 5 tents in), but the walk through Silver Hayes was pretty dreadful - really thick mud, and very slippy, saw a few people fall over.

Anyone stayed in South Park before? Our group have some large tents and we'd rather camp somewhere where there's space enough that we're not going to take up a great wodge of grass in one of the busier camps. We thought, from reading Tort's guide, that South Park or Dairy might suit- particularly because we are all likely to spend most of our time around Park, West Holts and the southeast corner anyway.

South Park is a good spot if you like a view, hell of a walk home though, particularly if you go right up the top where the views are. It's also one of the more sloped fields, so be prepared to be sliding down the tent in the night (and sleep with your head uphill to avoid headaches).

Dairy is probably as good a shout, flatter ground, closer to better amenities, shorter walk home.

Cheers! I hadn't factored in the hill.
