Camping. Where and why?

My main aim this year is to find somewhere flat! Got very fed up sliding down my tent during the night, especially when it was raining and you end up with the side or foot of your sleeping bag against the tent.

Flat and noisy > Quiet and slope.

Dairy / South Park area for me I think though despite the slope, like Micheals Mead last year as it was near the flushing toilets for my early morning 'luxury' toilet trip, near food places and waking up looking at the Pyramid stage was great. Just a shame it's a pain in the arse to get to the other side of the festival!

Dairy is awful, hard to get anywhere, unfriendly, muddy all the time. Don't know why anyone bothers heading there.

Edit. We had hundreds of bags of shit left round our tents last year. Couldn't move for them.

I think all the camping south of the railway line is terrible. Everyone should go to the other side and leave us filthy people with our bags of shit.

Thanks - yeh figured Park Home would be a bit of a stretch, and Oxylers and Pennards out of the equation.

Depends on where in Oxlyers and how many of you there are. It's a big field, if you're a single or maybe just two tents you'd probably find somewhere there on Wednesday afternoon. We get there at opening time because there's a specific area we like to be but there are new arrivals throughout the Wedneaday at Oxlyers.

I am a Glastonbury first timer this year. Not arriving until Thursday afternoon, so i imagine most places will be very full by then. Anyone have any suggestions of places that arn't really overcrowded?

Depends how many are in your group or if you are solo.

The Stewards can tell you where there is space left.

There is only two of us. Yeah i assumed that would be the case but was just wondering if anyone had any tips on places that dont get too overcrowded, dont get rowdy and dont flood if it storms.

Bushy ground usually has a fair amount of space left even on Thursday. Its nice and quiet and the toilets are decent. Only a pain in the arse to get to/from the south eat corner. Pyrmaid, John Peel, Other stage and Silver hayes are all easily accessible

I will be in East Campervan field this year, because I am staying in a Campervan, had I been camping inside the fence I would definitely tell people to avoid Dairy and Park Home, because who want's to be that far away from the Dance Village and JPT right?

n.b at all previous festivals I have camped in Dairy or Park Home.

dont know why people say park home filled up fast last year....we were right in the middle of it near one of the walkways and we had space around our tents wensday evening still, in fact we woke up with a new set of neighbours the next day so they must have found room to pitch overnight. I actually randomly noticed my tent in torts glasto guide when I was browsing it again this morning....this is his picture showing park home last year....and thats our campsite....random lol (mines the green one)....and yes the spider was LOUD from there but who goes to a festi to sleep anyway? :P

if i was tired enough to be going to sleep before 3am, i reckon i'd sleep through Arcadia's noise anyway

How often do people make the trip back and forth to their tent each day? I tend to go back to sleep at the end of the night only myself, so for me a strong factor is a decent view to enjoy a smoke with before bed, enough space to make it an easy stumble through tents to get home and neighbours who are friendly.

It was rammed where I was. Well, the people next to me had a fair bit of space, but they had camped in a fire lane that wasn't that well marked and had not been moved on (even though the campsite crew woke me up from my Wednesday morning nap to make me move). There was also a lot of people tying tents together with guy ropes to stop people taking the easy route through their big camps.

I don't think I was ever near my tent when Arcadia was in full swing, but I was woken up by the Other stage a couple of times.

So yes, Park Home. Full of twats, noise and bags of shit.

Depends on what time I drag myself out of bed and the weather, but maybe about three times including going back to sleep. Even if I was camped way out out I'd probably still go back in the evening to restock on drinks and put warmer clothes on.

Those who camp in Dairy what car park do you park in? I've only had a village residents parking pass so come into the festival at Gate B and camp at the top of Michael's Mead which I have enjoyed. Dairy is a bit of a trek from Gate B but if I didn't get a village pass this year is Dairy easy to get to from other gates?

Pylon for me!
We have a mixed age group bunch and it suits us all well!
Easy access from the car parks and the walks arent too long!
Close enough to the stages and to have a good wander round!
CLEAN TOILETS! i have never had a bad experience!
and always full of friendly people, but i imagine thats all the sites at Glastonbury!

Tend to head back to the tent once a day, restock the bar, see if anyone is about who wants to come and see the next act and sometimes to stick some warmer clothes on or in the bag. In the CV field I will just carry everything I need with me all day.

Or use the lockups to stash your booze, warmer clothes etc.

Before child we never went back to the tent once we left in the morning. Post child we don't go back to the tent once we leave in the morning. We now have the child in a bike trailer during the day which is big enough to put our booze for the day. At some point early evening we go to the lock-ups where we have stashed the rucksack carrier, put child in the carrier which has our clothes for the evening and put the trailer in. On the way back to the tent we pick up the trailer and repeat for 5 days.

Learnt from experience it is easier to get around the big crowds of the evening with the carrier rather than the trailer. Felt like a broken man one day last year though when I had had the carrier on for about 9 hours. Remarkable what a few beers and coffee can do for recovery though.

That's one hell of a treck. We came in from B one year witht the intention of going to Dairy, realised the treck and ended up at Michaels Mead.

Gate A to Dairy is also long but not too bad as its a pretty straight forward path. Gate D is the closest to Dairy but prone to awful queue management.
