Its pretty easy to smuggle too thankfully Foals are pretty big opposition, i know where i'll be! Yeah they’re a festival favourite, but they’re hardly gonna be hurting Billie’s crowd. Anybody with a passing interest in Billie will go see her - you can see Foals anywhere, all of the time.

It’ll be busy, but really not much more than any other Other headliner. Hoards of people aren’t gonna be filling the Other field to get away from Billie’s set, anyway. PSB on the other hand (and also Bicep) I can see being pretty damn busy; don’t think Kendrick is gonna be pulling a particularly mammoth crowd. Madyaker
She’ll probably have the smallest crowd of the headliners but who cares? As long as they get the mix right and the crowd can hear her it’ll be fine. Not that I’ll be there.

I love Kendrick, but he’s undeniably the smallest headliner this year.

Will kill it no doubt but i've seen him before so will be at PSB or Bicep. PSB will be crazy busy
Rose-Colored Boy
Way overdue a Pyramid headliner using a catwalk that stretches all the way through the pit. Hope Billie tests out how well that works ahead of Taylor headlining next year. Edited April 17, 2022 by Rose-Colored Boy
Deaf Nobby Burton
Me and my crowd saw Billie on the other in 2017 and we’ve got less than zero interest in seeing her again, so will definitely be elsewhere.

Pretty much the same for my crowd. I think we will be split between Bicep and Kendrick and we’ll all be at Macca.

Yeah seen Billie last time and enjoyed but no need for a repeat. I enjoy Foals on record but have always been a bit bored by them live so am looking forward to seeing what else is on offer. Any ideas? Never done a JP headliner before 🙂 Edited April 17, 2022 by zico martin

I’ve completely lost track but I think from memory Four Tet is probably another of the headliners.
chazwwe
In terms of Billies vocals, just watched a bit of Megans set and her vocals were set ridiculously low in the mix as well, looked like she was miming.

Coachella (and other US festivals/events for some reason) have weird audio mixing. It always sounds terrible. I don’t know what it is but UK festivals / BBC coverage seems to pick up way more sound than the US does. US sounds like they are trying to go for a clean sound whereas the UK doesn’t mind if you can hear the crowd? It’s weird and very noticeable. Without flogging a dead horse, there might be a bit more crowd to hear in the UK. I love hearing the crowd honestly, its huge for the atmosphere and based on how the BBC films this would make sense. There's no point panning to the crowd every 15 seconds if you can't hear them

There's no point panning to the crowd every 15 seconds if you can't hear them I’m not an audio expert but it honestly feels like two completely different audio set ups. Beyoncé’s set sounds right but you can tell they are actively cutting out the audience where they can. Apart from the odd crowd cheer (which could honestly be manufactured), they don’t want you to hear the crowd. Listening to Miley straight after its like night and day. It’s like the microphones are all positioned in different places and the balance just feels completely different. This is why I never judge Coachella sets for audience interaction or whether people know the words to the songs. Because I feel like the set up doesn’t give you a full picture at all of what really is happening in that field.

Matt42
The BBC coverage is fantastic because it makes you both bond with the artist and the crowd. Maybe I’m falling into a bit of British superiority but there is definitely an art to how they do it.
Rose-Colored Boy
It’s not down to how the bands sound in the field either because even the Other Stage sounds better than Coachella’s live streams.

I have no evidence but I think they do something to the audio which makes it sound flat. Like overproduced music that has no grit or soul. That kinda thing. So clean that it has no *flavour*
Matt42
In fact someone showed me once a video someone took in the crowd in 2012 of the next episode (Dre and snoop), crowd was bellowing the lyrics. On the stream you couldn’t hear any of that. Almost as if the crowd didn’t know the tune.

How Coachella wants it to come across, it sounds like a recording. Trying to mimic a record feel. It all sounds very clean, backing track kinda style. The nerd in me is loving these comparisons (so much so I've started comparing fan videos of each set to get better idea of crowds) Ultimately though, I think it boils down to investment and the fact that the BBC are broadcasting veterans with a production made primarily for TV. Coachella seems lower budget.

Yes exactly that, the BBC coverage puts an emphasis on Glastonbury itself as well as the act. How many sweeping shots of the Coachella scenery do you see in the coverage? None. How many times do you get that famous shot of the pyramid, the crowd, and the tor in the background?

Really no point in comparing the two.
