It's just not for me. I don't think not selling out means it's not successful - not in the eyes of festival goers anyway. I'm sure the majority of people had a lovely time overall. But I would guess that the organizers of the festival would consider not selling out some kind of failure. I wonder by how many tickets, and what the tipping point would have been? would it have taken 1 more big act? slightly cheaper tickets? I suppose there's no way to know for sure, but with the kind of festival Coachella is I would imagine that in some ways they count on selling out to achieve their profit goals. Suprefan
Before we get into the post festival hoo ha, here is the weather for Stagecoach this weekend. Youre allowed to bring in chairs to sit fyi since 99% of the audience stays at the Mane stage all day.

eyebrain
I did occasionally watch the stream and found some things odd. The way they chose to direct it was them not involving much from the audience. Audience audio mix was really lacking at times and what really surprised me was them almost not showing the audience at all, most notably there were no crane cameras being used which usually gets great audience shots. For me personally a great live footage includes the atmosphere - a connection between the artist and their audience. I think BBC manages to capture this really well. BBC showing Glastonbury always makes me want to be there, but footage of Coachella did not, even if bands themselves were giving great performances. I had the same issue with 2022 Coachella stream. People in Coachella subreddit are praising the stream, so I guess I'm in minority.

It was like I was watching The Brits instead of a festival.

The Sahara had a fly cam for overheads. Just depended on what you watched. Check the youtubr clips. If you want audience reaction the first 10 seconds in dominic fikes clip had a girl openly sobbing and they would keep cutting back to her. Or the deafening screams from Labrinth with Billie/Zendaya? Sonora Tent clips likely wouldve been the ones that mightve captured the energy you might feel is lacking since they had one person in the mosh pits/crowd. All i see are people having fun. Thing is everyone who goes to weekend 2 gets more excited about what happened weekend 1 cause they personally think the crowds arent going as crazy or anything so they go harder. That drone shot is amazing. You’re right it depends what I watched. I remember being slightly frustrated at Charli XCX, Yungblud and Gorillaz. I enjoyed your example of Nia Archives, thought that worked well. Smaller size of the venue helped a lot I think. In reality it was much larger than it seemed? 😄 This Sofi Tukker example kind of shows what my issue was - you can clearly see that crowd going off and having a great time but it somehow feels like they’re unable to get a good angle of them. They’re never the main thing in the frame unless it’s a close-up of a few people. Showing the back of the artist / the stage with back of the audience is not a crowd shot.. or at least it’s not something i’m so desperate about here. But i completely understand that’s my personal matter.

But i completely understand that’s my personal matter. I would also attribute some of the directing from weekend 1 to be different than weekend 2. Ive watched W1 stuff and some things were def shot diff than W2 sets. Chemical Brothers W2 has many more overheads with drone shots and more crowd stuff. Theres some other new clips on youtube now too. Sonora tent is pretty big actually, but its that feeling of being close cause the stage has no barrier which can shrink it in a sense. It is something I had brought up last year when talking about the fests and such. There is a disconnect between glasto and coach when it comes to the crowd and the artist on stage. You never feel that far away in any of the tents at coach except for Sahara cause its so damn big. Outdoor Theatre has tons of space but if youre in a good spot it feels like the act is right there. Main has changed a bit but you have multiple areas to be able to have them be close cause of all the catwalks and such but that varies. It was really cool seeing Skrillex, four tet and fred the way they were cause it felt organic and no frills in comparison to Calvin Harris the night before and everyone just wanted to party regardless. More clips below. Jai wolf has fly cam shots. Hopefully the Skrillex and friends set comes up in a couple days. And the country folk get to burn this weekend. Its 42 every day now. I'm sorry, but you have just posted five videos of dead crowds. Barely anyone looks interest. And why the heck is there a videographer in the crowd if no one is giving a shit. Just all feels very contrived.

Yaeji has some effects on her voice ( not backing track) but its live. Sofi Tukker is live also. Tucker has effects on his voice also when you hear that deep thing but its literally a reproduction of the record and Sofi def 100% sings. That fight was probably between somebody who wanted to see Frank and the other person that was happy with Blink 182 instead. Not that it matters one damn bit cause glasto stages are popping up almost daily right now but yeah, finally in the right mode to make a writeup. For now photos and theres some final videos from the fest that went up on youtube. The Lads also posted their "how coachella really is" video which is just funny cause thats every festival? Theyre all a pain?
