Just posted this in the West Holts thread but it's better placed here:

Stoked the Family Stone are going to be there. One of my all-time faves, was gutted to miss them after the (Rolling) Stones in '13. They deserve a good slot after that clash, although they're clearly still proud of their Glasto performance as it's on the front of their website: http://www.thefamilystonemusic.com/

Original members are the drummer Greg Errico and horn section (Cynthia and Jerry, trumpet and sax), they've also got Sly and Cynthia's daughter Phunne on vocals/keyboard/guitar, and some unsurprisingly shit-hot musicians for the rest of the slots.

Intrigued to see the extent of crossover between the two bands, or whether they just play one after the other (or mix up some mini-sets).

The album version is stunning, but I haven't heard what it sounds like live, and I'm dubious. There's only one Eddie Hazel.

I saw them do it at the Electric Picnic in 2008, where the guitarist was Michael Hampton. It was stunning and the highlight of what was a great weekend.

Best set I've ever seen at Glastonbury. Definitely. Blew my mind.

What I do find interesting is that there is far more interest in them now, then there was in 2010. Why is that?

My guess is it's to do with "Uptown Funk", which is basically a G. Clinton rip-off.

Or maybe because Kanye is headlining the same night.

Super disappointed last time they (Funkadelic/Parliament) played, my group was really looking forward to it but it just didn't click with us on the night. George had some young singer/mc dude do all of the heavy lifting, just piping up with an odd lyric every now and then when he caught his breath. I think we suffered about half the show before moving on.

This is going to be one of the most difficult decisions. Strangely Kanye was/is one of the most agreed upon acts of my group. However a lot of us love funk/ soul etc so this would suit is down to the ground - even the ones that don't know Clinton et al. Personally I'm swaying towards these but fear everyone (fuelled by their lack of knowledge) will stay at Kanye

you can see Kanye with a big atmosphere anywhen.

Not the same for George.

This is going to be my issue, whilst all my friends are adamant on going to Kanye, I hate him, and really cba with that. I also happen to love George Clinton. One friend has said they'd come with, but I know how easily plans change depending on who you're with and what state you're in. hopefully I get to go see George et al!

This pic was taken a few months ago. I'm glad Sly won that court case too http://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/sly-stone-awarded-5-million-in-royalty-lawsuit-20150128. I heard he was living in a RV. Sly was an absolute legend... I wish I got to see him live.

I saw Sly with the current family stone in 2007 on a supposed comeback tour. It was very sad as he was not able to function with the band for the short time he was on stage. Very confusing show overall. However the band itself were great and I am looking forward to seeing them at Glastonbury this year. If they play a joint headline set at West holts it's going to be incredible!

Never heard of these guys before. George Clinton rings a bell but that's about all my knowledge.

I've been listening to them the last 2 days and I'm hooked.

I can recognise a lot of 'modern' hip hop in it i.e. Atomic Dog. And Maggot Brain is brilliant!

Can't wait to see them and get shot with the bop gun haha (provided I'm not on shift).

I had an awesome time with Chic with a similar story.

Who is actually in The Family Stone now? I mean clearly we aren't talking Larry Graham sadly.

Original members are the drummer Greg Errico and horn section ("Cynthia and Jerry got a message that's sayin': all of the squares, go home"), they've also got Sly and Cynthia's daughter Phunne on vocals/keyboard/guitar, and some unsurprisingly shit-hot musicians for the rest of the slots.

Do you think we would expect guest performances on some of the tracks - who is carrying the vocals - the same guy that does for Funkadelic? This is the thing I'm most excited about on the line-up.

Can't bloody wait.

Hopefully there will be less people setting things on fire than in 2010 though - there was quite a lot of bizarreness down the front for that gig.
