The ticket system absolutely baffles me to be honest.

We had 3 full groups of 6 people trying.. so 18 of us in total. I ended up getting through 3 times and buying all 18 tickets in one session whilst not a single other person got through at all.

So bizarre. My computer is just your basic Virgin 60mb download.. I've got a pretty nice pc setup but i don't think that contributes to much at all

Once you get through once it's easier to get back through than people who still haven't gotten through at all

As I said, the first time I tried using all of the IPs in that way I failed to get tickets. I've not (personally) got tickets in any of the years since either, when I've not bothered using the other IPs.

Before the year I tried using all of the IPs I'd got thru ever year, no problems.

You can conclude whatever you like from that info, really.

But it's worth reading up with the psychology around how humans turn what is really 'luck' into a false idea of "I got lucky because I did something special", and then consider what I've said there again.

And then, maybe, you'll mostly ignore the claims of "do this, this definitely works". :)

Hi Neil.

I signed up for the service the other day but it's caught in some sort of loop. I have £5 added on the NRG thing but it keeps sending me back to the front page about adding credit. when I try and validate the account from outlook it states the validation code in't....erm...valid. I haven't actually typed in a code by this point - just clicked the link.

Does this make any sense? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Apparently if you have a kid at Glastonbury you get free tickets every year for the rest of your life.

Might speak to the girlfriend 9 months before ;)

is that for real? I am willing to bear a child for that. So that means October this year in time for next year haha

This is not true. It is the kid that gets the free ticket, not the family or parents.

I do think that while the lottery system is ultimately fair, once you have entered your reg number and joined the queue, your account should be issued a token to give you a few minutes to enter your credit card details etc.
Otherwise the system is going to more and more favor the people who are tech savvy enough to pre-load data and write code, and go against the easily confused (ie. Me!).

I've had years when:-

Other folks were more successful and every time it was someone whose ISP was orange, back when they existed, hence some would thing they had favouritism - I failed for 16 hours solid during one of those attempts

I've succeeded when connecting via work which at the time had a phenomenally quick connection

I've succeeded from home just using ADSL and IE

I've failed at home using fibre, multiple virtual machines and even a couple of browsers using a VPN to connect via overseas - yet my sister succeeded just using a blooming ipad (think it may have even been using 3g but not sure)

I certainly believe them when they recommend only one tab per browser, as I've certainly tripped up my own attempt by not heeding that and also agree with Neil that you end up with hunches about what has worked for you in the past - hence why I think anyone desperate should still keep their monitors going for coach tickets - if I can get a train from Bristol to O2 then coach back to Pilton then so can you young buggers :P

I'm shocked you even have to try and get tickets! You deserve the privilege of not having to try.

I don't feel I've any more right to a ticket than anyone else, and I always buy one.

Until for this year, the buying had always been done in the public sales. A few years ago my group missed out in the October sale and I asked the guy in charge of ticketing (who I know) if he could help me - after all, we'd all try to get tickets any route we could, right? - and he declined. I was pissed off that he did, but I've no problem with him doing that. It's his right to say no.

I missed out again back in October. A week or so later I had an email exchange with the ticket guy about something else, and that was wrapped up by him saying "no problem, I'm here to help" ... which, I felt, gave me the opening to ask again (else I wouldn't have asked, as he'd declined before) and this time he said yes. I could have kissed him. :D

Same as ever tho, not freebies. See phoned me up and took my order on ticket man's instruction.

I'm happy to pay for Glasto. I was paying to go before I started this website and I'm happy to still pay to go. And it's all for charitee anyway.

I didn't mean about not paying, I mean more the fact the stress/possibility of not getting a ticket. But I agree ^_^

Sure, using personal experience of success or failure in getting a ticket probably says as much about the effectiveness of a specific method as it does about the effectiveness of wearing a lucky hat.

However, if I'm understanding @jumbomcnutt correctly (though I'm fairly certain I'm not), there are technical reasons to believe having 6 IP's is better than 1.

I like the comparison to a lottery: having 6 lottery tickets doesn't guarantee you will win, but you do have a 6 times better chance of winning than someone with only 1 lottery ticket. But I don't have the technical skills to know if that is actually a valid comparison to the IP situation, specifically with regard to getting Glastonbury tickets.

awww that's the sweetest thing. I'm not sure I could cope with being 9 months pregnant and at Glastonbury though. My sister in law is currently due imminently and she can barely stand up haha

The scariest thing about buying tickets (actually not the scariest thing - everything about getting tickets is scary!!) is that you can get into the payment stage and then still fail!

Yes, exactly.
I don't think it's fair to put people under time pressure at the point that they're handing over credit card details.

Thanks,

It's best to email me at admin@checkpage.co.uk about this, but ...

try doing http://www.checkpage.co.uk/logout/

and then logging back in again on the front page - having just checked the status of your account it's about the only thing I can think of.

I met her in 2010, was stood next to her at the pyramid when i started chatting to her. asked about her baby as I had just had a child. She told me the whole story. I was amazed she came back. Good on her

You'd need to build up a lot of statistics to get a realistic insight into any biases in the system.  As  eFestivals said, people are very good at seeing patterns where there are none, and at convincing themselves that they did something different or better than others

On the main ticket day, I never get a sniff of the ticket buying page, and I've been sat at this computer doing nothing but press f5 since 2004.  I have a suspicion that buying from Bristol is the worst place to buy from as the nearest city to the festival it has plenty of people wanting to attend, but that's totally unproven.
