MattyFTM
It's a groups first time to Glastonbury and we are wondering if there are any supermarkets near by which we can get to to buy our beer once we are down there? We are travelling on one of the coaches and aren't sure how much you're allowed to take onto the coach itself, can anyone enlighten us please? GoonerRob
Last year we went to tesco in Shepton Mallet, was open when we arrived at about 2.30am on the Wednesday morning, managed to fill up on booze and food ready to join the queue at 3am http://www.tesco.com/store-locator/uk/?bID=6645
MattyFTM
How did you's get up to the Tesco as we will be arriving by coach and not car. Are there no shuttle buses on like at Leeds Fest which take you to a nearby supermarket?

Infact, i think it's about 10 miles The Shepton Mallet one is about 3 miles, which, if you're planning on getting there early (say 3am), would be mostly sound for you to leave your stuff with your mates, as you traipse through the dark roads to get there! incident
There is a regular bus service between the Festival Site and Shepton Mallet which I believe stops really close to Tesco - but it only operates while the festival is open. Luggage has been discussed in various threads, but I can only find this one quickly (I don't travel in coaches). http://www.efestivals.co.uk/forums/topic/191328-luggage-allowance-on-coach/?hl=%2Bcoach#entry4616792 They seem to frown on trolleys of booze, hardly surprising, but you have the option of taking some, or adding it to your rucksack till you get off, or take spirits/wine boxes to save on weight. Or go cold turkey. Do you know anyone going by car who'll meet you there with it? (I'm already bringing stuff, so can't volunteer)

pie_and_a_pint
Shuttle bus info is on the Glastonbury website here: http://www.glastonburyfestivals.co.uk/information/getting-here/by-bus/ You could arrive by coach, pitch up, then head out to Shepton Tescos. Or you could bring lighter booze - spirits (decanted into plastics), wine, etc.

By 'when the festival is open' what do you mean? We arrive there on Thursday morning, if we go pitch our tents will we then be able to get the shuttle up to tesco? incident
I just mean it doesn't start until the gates open Wednesday morning, so you can't stock up on Tuesday night while queuing. The full schedule is on the link posted above.

phil the shrew
Shepton shuttle bus definitely the best option as it runs hourly to and from the site and stops near Tesco's - so bus out, quick shop at Shepton and bus back in again and you are probably done in two hours Can also catch the Glastonbury town bus but there is only a smallish co op in the centre which has a limited stock

rivalschools.price
Shepton Mallet Tesco had a sign saying 'strictly no dogs' during festival weekend last year. Why would they suspect that there would be an increase in dogs that weekend as there are no dogs allowed at festival?

rivalschools.price
they don't, the sign is up all year round. This was a temporary hand-written one.maybe the permanent one was down for some reason that weekend but I definitely got tho pressing that it was because of the festival. phillyfaddle
But.....when you've yomped with all your gear from the coach, found a decent camping spot and pitched up, finally relaxing and enjoying the atmosphere....would you really be keen to walk off site to get a shuttle bus to a supermarket and lose hours of precious festival time for a few tinnies when you could be at the cider bus or Brothers Bar?? Glastonbury is so huge, it's exhausting enough walking back to your car to pick up provisions. That can take 2 hours in itself. I'd stick to taking what you can feasibly carry in on 1 trip, rather than be relying on a schlep to Shepton Mallet Tesco (I'm sceptical about it being a 2 hour round trip...especially if it rains......which it won't, but...).
