I prefer the sound there than pyramid....

You must surely be referring to headliners only with this? I can kind of understand that. Arcade Fire was ruined for me at the Pyramid because the bass completely overwhelmed everything, after all, whereas I adored their Reading 2010 set. But before the subs Reading is basically tragic. I remember walking away from Cancer Bats in disgust in 2012 because I went up to the bit of the barrier closest to the speakers and I could still hear the actual sound coming off the cymbals louder than anything being picked up and 'amplified'.

Latitude this weekend just gone, on the other hand - wow. Perfect, everywhere, for every act. Unbelievably good.

I remember the song there there got me into 'head hence why I love HTTT so much. Their best set of music on one album I think. Would love to see them on the Pyramid once before my clogs get popped

I got into them around The Bends so that's probably why I still think its their best album. Their albums since are more developed but I feel they never really had a set of songs as strong, even Kid A had stuff like Treefingers and In Limbo on it.

Sorry if they've been mentioned, but there's too many pages to trawl through..

Next year is 40yrs of The Cure, they'd be fucking excellent to close the festival..

Does Michael have some beef with them? What d'yous think their realistic chances would be?

Think Michael said that they'd never really given a good performance at The Farm. Trying to find a quote online, but to no avail at the moment.

Not sure how they'd go down with a Pyramid crowd these days either; little crowd interaction and long songs... They got mixed reviews at Reading a few years back, and that was with a crowd partly made up of people who had bought tickets specifically to see them.

I think The Cure has a similar problem to Depeche Mode with regards to the festival.  They're able to play stadiums and headline festivals around the world, so are too big to play any slot other than Pyramid headliner - yet would the Eavii really want to have headline the entire festival?  My gut feeling* is that the festival would love to have either band headline Other rather than Pyramid, but since (in Robert Smith's words) "It's a big world", they don't need to take the step down.

Of course, since The Cure have a large back catalogue, the exposure from playing Glastonbury may well be worth it to remind people why they got so big in the first place + to sell more records.

*My gut feeling is totally unsubstantiated speculation driven by things I might have read years ago.

I think it'd be different if they hadn't headlined three or four times already. Eavises are always saying stuff about getting acts that haven't played before and (despite The Who) getting an act whose career has kinda stalled since they last played to headline for a fifth time will not be in their interests at all.

I think Depeche Mode will headline next time they tour. They were probably lined up last year but nixed the rest of the tour.

20 years ago though.  I don't think it matters how many times you've headlined when it's that long ago.

My hopes mixed with what could be realistic next year

Pyramid stage Headliners

Friday- Foo Fighters/Biffy Clyro (a Reading-type headliner), Stereophonics as sub

Saturday- Radiohead, Foals as sub

Sunday- Ed Sheeran, Paolo Nutini as sub

Other stage Headliners

Friday- The National

Saturday- Disclosure

Sunday- Kendrick Lamar

Kendrick and Foals are both in the could sub Pyramid/could headline Other category so they're interchangeable

I'd be happy if any of The National, Radiohead or Kendrick Lamar play

I feel like Kendrick would be more likely to headline Other than sub Pyramid, he's not got the crossover appeal of, say, Pharrell.

I'd suggest Bon Iver, Frank Ocean and Kendrick Lamar as Other headliners but that seems far too strong, so stick Disclosure on there and move Frank Ocean over the West Holts.

when you're at the front the bass on pyramid ruins it a bit (other than the who and Paul Weller which were spot on, unlike kanye and alt j which were the worst for it this year of who I saw) whereas at reading the mix in 2013 was spot on in my opinion

What's Pharrell crossing over from? :P

Kendrick has a ton of mainstream appeal with a strong selling number one album, large festival slots and a verse on a Taylor Swift song this year. He'd be well at home on the Pyramid.

Crossover is probably the wrong word. Pharrell has (somehow) cultivated an image inoffensive and vanilla enough that no one really questions his presence on the bill. He's just sort of there. He's not the sort of act that has fans, he's the sort that crowds go to see. Kendrick could definitely sub Pyramid and would probably mostly go down well, but I also think he's got the sort of fan dedication and specific interest to headline a stage.

In fact it's Kendrick's crossover (yes, I do mean that word this time) appeal that makes him pretty much the most interesting and important figure in music at the moment. The fact that he's appearing in Taylor Swift videos within a few months of releasing songs like The Blacker the Berry is pretty amazing.

It's far too early in the Glastonbury year for this nonsense talk.

It'd be a bit shit... but it isn't unlikely, they're subbing T in the park this year & also did back in 2013, they're releasing an album later this year, extremely radio-friendly with quite a large fanbase

I'm not saying they couldn't do it, I'm saying they shouldn't.

After the whole Charlatans disaster this year where they weren't quite bad enough to kick me out of bed, but bad enough to make me hate it a lot I welcome the Stereophonics to open the Other Stage next year. I'll make Usain Bolt look like an arthritic aunt the speed I'll run down that railway line.
