Is Nu Metal the worst genre ever invented?

No, that'd be Death Metal, closely followed by Acid Jazz and Country & Western.

I seem to remember an onslaught of particularly awful Nu Metal bands though. Lincoln Park, Limp Bizkit, Avenged Sevenfold, Staind, Alien Ant Farm, Puddle of Mud, Papa Roach, Evanescence etc. Music for the "PARTY PARTY!!" frat boy lot.

You know that bit in Red Dwarf where Kryton experiences ambivalence? Well, I just had that same experience.

On one hand I was listening to the sound distort, thinking about how nice and bassy it must have sounded and looking at how nice and sunny and lovely it looked at Glastonbury. Really enjoying the scene.

On the other hand I found myself incredibly annoyed by that knobhead twerp inanely blithering on about his single, saying he was in a tent when he was clearly outside.
