it's exactly the same scenario. They were absolutely massive worldwide when they headlined. They make dull music for the masses. And they have never been spoken of again.

How many albums have Mumford and sons sold in comparison to Adele?

Adele is in a different league in the moment and is probably the biggest act in the world.

I couldn't believe that Mumfords were headlining, and not because they're shit (which they are) but because they didn't seem big enough. I thought they were sub size at best in 2013. Whereas Adele headlining her first festival at the peak of her fame will be covered everywhere. Shit, her bloody tour has been on the news! Not because anything notable happened - just because she's touring. She's the biggest act around. It'll be a huge deal.

all it does is re-enforce it to me.

not that it makes any difference, there'll definitely be a number of other acts i'll be far more interested in seeing at the same time. i wouldn't waste my time at Glastonbury going to see an act I don't like....

Yes, it'll be a huge deal right up until the performance. Then it'll be barely spoken of again. Because when you strip away all the hype it's a woman singing dull love songs.

Yes it'll be spoken about for one day, just like everything else will be. But if you think her performance will be spoken about weeks after the festival, let alone in years to come, you're crackers.

Never one willingly to contradict you, Oh Orange One, I think you're mistaken. You're underestimating the blanket obsession that the world of musical mediocrity has with Adele. This was never vaguely true of, say, Mumford. Piers Twatting Morgan will be going on about her history-making Glastonbury headline set on Good Morning Britain for fucking forever...

Hmmmm, not so sure. It all depends where her career goes from now, ultimately.

The opinions of Madonna changed over the years, from plastic pop star to something (supposedly) more credible and absolute-superstar, and if she'd played Glastonbury at around the time of that cross-over point people like you would have said that sort of thing at the time, while different things would be said in the years after.

As far as it goes I tend to agree with you, but at the same time I don't think it's the certainty you're giving it.

There's no doubt that Adele has many fans but not everyone in front of the Pyramid is going to be an Adele fan so she's going to have to think how to satisfy the Glastonbury masses - not just her own fans on this occasion (if God forbid she is the headliner). It's also the Saturday headliner, and while she may have one or two songs that shuffle faster than the average heartbeat, the vast majority of her songs (whether they're good or bad) are not exactly going to set the majority of people up for the rest of the night.

I'll probably be there as some of my mates would want to see her but I'll probably head to bed after that with a nice cuppa and dreams of what could have been.

Or it'll be cited as a 'moment' for years to come, just as her performance of Someone Like You from the Brits in 2011 (?) is still referenced to this day.

Never thought I'd find myself defending Adele to this degree. But she's never done a show like Glastonbury, so there's no way of knowing how it will go down. Most headliners have worked their way up festival bills over the years. A Glastonbury headline slot would be entirely new ground for her.

Bumping with nowt to say simply to keep a thread on the first page is as bad as the Korean spammers yo.

Anyway. I do have something to say. Dunno if it's been discussed as I skipped a few pages here and there but this footage from the current Adele tour that I happened upon seems to paint a bit of a different picture than the 'boring ballads' talk. Can easily see it all going down well.

And a rain machine, no less! Not that we'll need a machine at Glasto.

No,thanks..anyone but not this...

Wonder if it was Sufjan Stevens or Bon Iver under discussion that people would be bemoaning that it's nothing but the downbeat outpourings of a moaning miseryguts.

I don't think even the biggest Sufjan Stevens or Bon Iver fans would claim they'd make good Saturday Pyramid headliners though.

>quoting orgazoid... damn quotes<

HOGWASH! Bon Iver would be bloody wonderful.

Ive always been firmly in the "She will smash Glastos back doors in but its not for me" camp. Her songs, while mainly ballads, are incredibly popular. She has a powerful and emotive voice and by the looks of it, has a nice backing band to help fill out the stage and make it a bit more of a show.

Its not where i will be, but there is almost no doubt she will come away from that slot as a winner

Man, you lot are gonna regret all the keyboard-time you've spent on this when the truth comes out..... namely, that McBusted are the actual Saturday headliner. Truth.

I go to bed at night dreaming of an Air Hostess/3am/Its All About you medley to close the pyramid.

I tell you what, I just watched that Adele video. She's got the setlist, the prepared 'adlibs' with the crowd, the cheeky bit of swearing, Rolling in the Deep' to finish. She'll go down very very well on the Saturday night. Huge BBC audience, pyramid field will be rammed. She's going to nail it, I reckon. It's a polished, endearing performance

I'll not be there, Christ alive, no, but that's a fucking good booking for GFL, if it's what really going to happen.
