wilem
They're white guys who play guitars. For that reason alone there'd be a lot less questioning of the booking and the performance. It'd please Lonsdale for sure
addicted2noise
In the past ME and EE have said they takeย like to pick artists who haven't previouslyย been at headliner level before giving them a chance (Kings of Leon,ย Arctics [2007], Kasabian etc). Should we not start speculating on bands who are ready to make the step up? Foals look ready after Bestival last year, but is there anyone else? ย Personnaly I'd prefer this to all these older bands who have played numerous times before. ย What about the xx? I think they'll headline a few smaller festivals next year but its possibly they might be given the chance to step up and headline the Friday.ย
eFestivals
the strokes would be perfect. never headlined before (or played the festival before, correct me if I'm wrong), definitely big enough, more than ready for the step up, fans galore. maybe give them a chance? if hyde park was anything to go by, they'd absolutely kill it. this is why thy're top of my wishlist ย ย Hello ... hello ... have I woken up in 2001? The Nal
It seemed to go down pretty well, from where I was stood. To be fair, he played 40 odd songs and deployed a fair chunk of Beatles deep cuts like Lovely Rita and Mr Kite. First ever live perfromance of Another Girl, IIRC. It was the new stuff like My Valentine and Hope for the Future that fell flat. ย Got to please the masses I suppose. He needs to drop capacity in that case to roll out the new stuff and the deep tracks. ย ย ย ย Hello ... hello ... have I woken up in 2001? ย They were overrated and dull then too. I think they'll headline a few smaller festivals next year but its possibly they might be given the chance to step up and headline the Friday.ย I think their third album will have to be a lot better than the second. ย I listened to them both the other day and was struck by how much, much better the debut was over Coexist. ย I could actually see it happening if the third album was really good, but not next year - perhaps in 2017, depending on when it comes out. Vanderlyle
Which is why they'd be out of their minds to headline. Could never keep the crowd happy. There'd be a million 'Radiohead didn't nail it, where was 'Creep'/Plastic trees/whatever?' threads on here, far worse than the Kanye stuff. ย They're not new to the whole thing though. Surely in a 2 hour set they can play plenty of Bends/OK Computer along with plenty of KoL, Rainbows etc? I mean a 20 song set gives you 10 hits and 10 newbies. Seems like a fair balance. ย ย They're white guys who play guitars. For that reason alone there'd be a lot less questioning of the booking and the performance. ย I hate this line. "White guys who play guitars". Why do people always have to bring up race? I mean something like 85% of the UK is white, right? And Britain is famed round the world for its history of indie, rock, and other guitar music. It's not a fucking conspiracy.

Gucci Piggy
That's got nothing to do with what I said. There are people who are uncomfortable with people who are different from them - be it via race, sexuality, gender, or whatever. There are a bucketload of people who think hip-hop music isn't art and that it requires no talent. Therefore a white man playing a guitar is less likely to be subject to criticism than a black man who raps. I'm not talking about black people or non-guitar music not being fairly represented, like your post seems to suggest I am.

I'm not havin it" stuff was bollocks. Of course Glastonbury should, and does, get a mix of musical styles. ย But i don't agree with the second bit at all. People saying they'd prefer Oasis to Jay-Z is nothing about race. It's about genre, and a lot of people just don't get hip-hop. As an aside, I'd actually agree that I've never seen hip-hop really work on the Pyramid for whatever reason. And I'm a pretty big hip-hop fan. It always just falls flat.ย
The Nal
Snoop was good, as were De La Soul. Wu-Tang Clan went down well too. ย Headliners don't seem to go down well for some reason. Enjoyed Wu-Tang although it still felt flat around me. ย Maybe it's just that putting hip-hop on the small stages gets more actual fans there. It often seems lost on Pyramid - if it's middle of the day just being watched by people spending their afternoon at the Pyramid so they catch the poppier acts, and at headline time it is people just there for the event? iamthehorn
What's "horrible myopic and close-minded"? ย This "no hip-hop at Glastonbury" nonsense (which is what you said, that wasn't directed at you).ย ย And characterizing Kanye West as a "bling bling rapper with nothing to say" is pretty stupid too.
