Headliners 2016

after the hoopla that happened i doubt Axl would be in a rush to work with Benn again (but as i said, i'm sure the right money would change that - i just think that money will more likely be given by Download)

Axl walked off stage in Dublin in 08 for 90 minutes after getting bottled and was held to ransom by the promoter to come back on and play. Real bad blood but he came back two years later.

If grudges were permanent in Axl land I doubt he would ever play anywhere again or be able to even get served in his local 7-Eleven.

He actually sounds decent nowadays that hes stopped running about the stage like he did when he was 25. Seeing Duff playing with him is great!

BELIEVE!!

Oh, and as much as I like Matt Sorum, I'm all for Steven Adler in!

The cat could swing. And still can.

yeah if they're gonna reform, it should definitely be the full Appetite lineup

as for Axl, he obviously doesn't sound as good as he did way back when, but his voice certainly hasn't succumbed to age like many of his peers - he still absolutely nails that 'you're gonna diiiiiiiiiiieeeeeeeeeeeeeee' bit at the start of Welcome To The Jungle. i wouldn't be quite as excited about a reformation as i would've been when i was younger, but if it happens it'll still be a huge deal

I know its controversial, but I still think Chinese Democracy is a brilliant album. Had it been released as an Axl solo album, I think it would be perceived as much better than common perception would have you believe and sadly it is far better than anything Slash has released since he left GNR.

I actually think Axl's voice is still great, at least in the studio.  His singing on Chinese Democracy is the best of his career, but of course those tracks could have been recorded in the mid-nineties! Live, he's a little more screechy, I admit.

I don't buy into this reunion rumour mill at all. It pops up every 3 years or so and some 2 decades after the split, we're no closer to a reunion. Would Slash et al be interested in playing Chinese Democracy tracks - just agreeing on that point would probably take 5 years of lawyer-assisted talks to sort out.

I've seen GNR a couple of times on the Chinese Democracy tours and they were enjoyable shows, but the setlist hasn't changed in years and they leave out so many deep cuts from the back catalogue that I would love to hear, so I'm less enthused about seeing them again.

If it's the appettite line up, they wouldn't play anything from the Chinese Democracy album, much as they wouldn't play any Slash, Duff or Izzy solo stuff (of which Izzy's Ju Ju Hounds is clearly the best, Gilby Clarke's first solo album comes a close second but we're not counting him :)).

You'd probably get something close to the setlist they were playing around 1992/3 this is from the MK show...

  1. Nightrain
  2. Mr. Brownstone
  3. Live and Let Die (Wings cover)
  4. Welcome to the Jungle
  5. Attitude (Misfits cover)
  6. It's So Easy
  7. Double Talkin' Jive
  8. You Ain't the First
  9. You're Crazy
  10. Used to Love Her
  11. Patience
(with I was only joking (intro) & Imagine)
  12. Knockin' on Heaven's Door (Bob Dylan cover)
  13. Axl Rose Piano Solo
  14. November Rain
  15. Dead Horse
  16. Matt Sorum Drum Solo
    (Matt Sorum)
  17. You Could Be Mine
  18. Slash Guitar Solo (Slash)
  19. Speak Softly Love (Love Theme from The Godfather)
    (Andy William cover)(Godfather Theme)
  20. Sweet Child O' Mine
  21. Paradise City

Way too much solo playing and general arsing about going on though, should have thrown in Coma or Rocket Queen.

The amount of solos and 'jams' enforced on the audience at recent shows is appalling. I did not pay my hard-earned to hear bumblefoot play the pink panther theme.

Ha.

But seriously, why would Slash want to associate with Axl Rose again? I should say I'm not a GnR fan, but Rose is clearly a w*nker, and hasn't done the GnR name any good in recent years. Slash on the other hand comes over as one of the good guys of rock, and has done high profile sets on the main stages of the biggest festivals.

Mind you, a world tour would bring in a LOT of money.

Feck me had to Google him now, isn't he presenting Celebrity Juice?!!!

ha!  just had to google him too, and you're right!

first gig i ever went to was GnR, at Maine Road in 1992.  i think Izzy had just left.  support acts on the day were Faith No More and Soundgarden, so all we need is this GnR rumour to be true for a full-on nostalgia-fest revisited.

it'd be terrible, and i wouldn't go, obvs, cos i'm not still into the shit i listened to when i was 14.  come to think of it, i was never into Soundgarden in the first place.

asked and answered - the amount of money promoters would throw at them to reform is gigantic, and there aren't many acts in the world who'd have the same amount thrown their way. plus Slash obviously still loves playing the GnR material, and so to be able to do it how it was originally written must be something he'd like to do again

Should have seen that coming.

GnR have always played bloated gigs with nonsense solos and bits and pieces here and there. From Use Your Illusion onwards anyway.

Hopefully they'll drop Knocking on Heavens Door if they reform.

Axl is one of the craziest most interesting front men in living memory. I'd say Slash would love it. A lot better than that Miles lad. And the $100 million odd quid they'll earn from it would help too.

I like how they specified it was Matt Sorum playing the Matt Sorum drum solo and Slash playing the Slash guitar solo.

Can't see it happening. Like someone said before, these rumours always popping up. I would say for axl at least, the money is not the issue.

Slash's stuff holds it own, if a bit predictable at times, and I quite like miles Kennedy.

But I would love to see it as was too young to see it first time round.

If someone offers them $100 million, which they will, I can't see them turning it down.

Don't underestimate how big they were at the time and how much demand there will be for tickets. They sold 75 million albums in 4 years!
