They wouldn't have to. It's all done via barcodes and scanners that display green ticks and red crosses to confirm or deny entry.

Uhhh.. I was checking tickets last year, and while I can't speak for the Pedestrian Gates there wasn't anything even vaguely like that on the Vehicle Gates.

Hmmm...it's not impossible that I've confused it with other big outdoor events, but I'm fairly sure there's a ticket scan on the way through Gate A.

You might be thinking of the UV scan - put the ticket under a UV light and check for security features?

Surprised no one has done the picture of a ticket under a blacklight to reveal this year's UV design, usually something that comes up around now.

I think the last few years it just says "Now check photo".

something similar has happened to me. my ticket was sent out on the 19th of May and was "out for delivery" from my local sorting office from 22nd. I emailed See at the end of May as it still hadn't arrived. they opened a query with Royal Mail who came back and said that while they are sorry their is no signature it was handed over to my buildings concierge. I've spoken to the concierge guys and we've gone through all the delivery records and searched the mail room, but no tickets....

I've asked for them to reissue, but no reply. does anyone have a good number to contact See on? the one I've been using just rings out. cheers

We used this one 0843 515 9400, but it did take 20 minutes the first time and then 40 minutes of hanging on the phone the second time.

We also got a reply from ticketing@glastonburyfestivals.co.uk once our tickets were eventually found.

Raise an official complaint with royal mail via their customer services asap as it takes quite few days to be "investigated". Telephone them rather than using the online form. 03456 000 606 8am - 6pm.

Fair enough. Obviously a faulty memory on my part, then - though it does seem odd that there's no way for them to cancel tickets once they're issued. Ticket scans are now pretty much derigeur even in academy size venues.

I guess the size/location of the place comes into it?

I don't think Reading scan tickets still (or didn''t in 2012) ...but TiTP does. So maybe its just a cost thing.

thanks for the phone number. when i spoke to royal mail a couple of weeks ago they said the sender was the only person who could raise a complaint. which See have already done and the result was that Royal Mail believe the item was delivered (even though they have no proof!)

You can complain. You did not sign for them and if your tracker does not show a signature they have not been signed for.

Absolutely. If there is no signature, Royal Mail have failed. A signature is a key part of their guarantee for special delivery. No postman (person?) should be 'handing' anything over when it's special delivery.

Re: barcodes, that was my concern, that a scan of the ticket would come up as 'invalid (lost)' but I don't remember anyone scanning it last year, just putting it under UV to check legitimacy then checking the photo. It does seem odd if there's no way they could invalidate tickets remotely though.

Anyone phoning seetickets, and don't want to get charged per minute for 0845 numbers, should be able to find cheaper/free alternatives on www.saynoto0870.com.

It's not that strange. Until the (relatively recent) introduction of barcodes on tickets it was fairly standard that General Admission tickets couldn't be cancelled, hence the reluctance of venues to reissue them. I don't think I even saw a barcode on a ticket until about 10 years ago.

I think that at Glastonbury it'd fall into the "technically possible but would need way too much resources to make sense" category. Even ignoring the cost of buying/renting a couple hundred barcode scanners, you've got way too many challenges that don't exist at static venues, and aren't even as much of an issue at arena-based festivals. The size of the site, the number of gates (20ish), ensuring that the systems all stay powered and connected 24 hours a day, the variety of ticket types (and indeed, some people don't have physical tickets).

It'd just add an extra cost and an extra layer of complexity to a system that's already way too complicated, for the sake of stopping what can't be much more than a handful of tickets not reaching their intended destination - most of which probably aren't even used for attempted admission - if the ticket had been stuck at the back of a hanger at Sydney Airport come 23rd June, then there's little danger of someone trying their luck with it.

Very few festivals have scanning simply because of the distance between entrances, Glasto is a mile wide field basically so would be near impossible to network all entrances for the scanners to communicate with a server.

Okay, so starting to worry a bit now. Tickets were dispatched from See. Royal Mail attempted delivery yesterday while I was at work which I saw from the online tracking system. When I got home though they had not left a card! Rang up customer services - who marked a complaint for this but said I wouldn't be able to pick them up fro the depot without a card so all they could do is schedule a redelivery even though I will be out at work during the redelivery . But don't worry apparently they will definitely leave a card next time! So they are supposed to be redelivering on Thursday (as it takes 48 hours to get an envelope from the depot less then a mile down the road). However, i have just looked on the online tracker and it is still giving me an option to book in a redelivery as though one isn't already arranged. Don't want to touch it though in case it confuses the system! Sorry for the rant, everyone else I know going already has their tickets just waiting for mine and it has been a pretty rough week in lots of other ways so this is really putting the cherry on the top!
