Best route for Campervan West?

From London, would it be M4, M32 through Bristol then come out following the A37???, probably arriving around 2pm on the Tuesday.

Ta!

:bye:

Yeah that will work. Head south on the A37 then personally I would take the A39 to Wells and on to Glastonbury Town. Then onto the A361 to the site. Better to stick on the main roads with a camper or caravan

Nice one….looks like a wise move, would that be to avoid some of the build up going direct on the A37 to the site? So theres no 'festival traffic' restrictions through Glastonbury town then?

No dude from London you want the M3 then A303 and turn off at Wincanton for the A371 up to the A361. This will be by far the quickest route with the festival traffic. It's the quickest route anyway provided the 303 is relatively clear. Going via Bristol is ludicrous.

Thanks but I can't see how travelling on mainly 'A' roads from London would be quicker than the motorway???

It's the quickest route. I live by the site and work mostly in London so have done it thousands of times.

It's also the way the festival itself advises you go (although they suggest going up the A37 rather than the A371) http://www.glastonburyfestivals.co.uk/information/getting-here/by-car/

Feel free to ignore my advice, but your route will take at least an hour longer with festival traffic.

Thanks mate, really appreciate your superior knowledge, i'm going to the West camper van site so would this route still be the same for that bearing in mind i'd be coming in from the SE of the site & the West camper van site is SW of the site but your advice takes me right around the north of the site?? Cheers

If you have a look at this map: http://cdn.glastonburyfestivals.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2014/04/overviewmapbig.jpg

you can only get to the West camper field via the A361 (the white dotted route that comes off the road by where it says "pop up hotel"). So you're effectively approaching either from NE or NW. There's no way through from the South as all the roads are blocked off and manned 24/7.

You could try and approach on the A361 from the West, but the traffic is often even worse coming from Glastonbury (and the M5), and if you take the A371 up from the A303 then you'll join up with the people coming on the A37 down from Bristol at the roundabout near Shepton Mallet.

Thanks but I think i'll come via Bristol, down the A37 then onto the A39, through Glastonbury & approach the A361 from the West(as per the advice from the site on approaching the site via the direction you want to park, so West for the West camper van site), i'm arriving early Tues afternoon so I think it won't be to hectic at that time. I reckon it'd be a nigh mate trying to get the West CP site from the SE. Thanks though.

none of us can see into the future but I also live in London and have parked in the crew car park { which is on the west side }
over the past 36 years I have used two main routes but # I have never driven via Bristol #
Route 1 M4 then though Bath and down that way -
Route 2 A303 and then head North
{ will not list the exact route as I was displaying a crew pass so was able to pass though road blocks that others cant pass }
I used to prefer the route via Bath as I was in no hurry but at the end of the day its six and half a dozen.
make no mistake whatever time you intend to show up there will be traffic so Glastonlocal advice is sound.
