Buying A Car

If the OP is still looking I came across this yesterday.

Usual suspects, Fiesta, Golf, Mini, Civic, Mazda 3(?), Ibiza, Swift, Polo & Yaris. All small cars. Seen Mondeo estates go cheap, you could live in the back of one of them.

My mother owns a Suzuki Celario - from £6999 brand new, 1 litre, no road tax to be paid due to low emissions, it has a massive boot and is also big inside - doesn't look it from the outside. Air con included and lots of leg room. I'm going to be getting one next year.

My advice would be avoid getting a loan for it. You'll probably regret it especially if it's an old car and you're still paying the loan off if you no longer have the car. I can't see why you'd want to borrow to get 2 years insurance to be honest, it'd work out cheaper to pay monthly premiums on insurance than it'd be to be paying loan + interest for it.  In fact i wouldn't put any of the loan towards insurance.

Secondly i'd get a dash cam, it might make your insurance cheaper.

Good luck finding a decent car.

In the end I got myself a 2005 Skoda Fabia Estate, it's silver, I call it Haku

Paid £2000 for the car and £600 for the insurance, leaving me with £2400 of the loan

I'm paying £350 in interest for the loan, if I had paid the insurance monthly the insurance would have cost me £1150

The car is great, and it was nice to have a big chunk of cash in the bank to cover payments for a while, and I ended up saving £200 by getting a loan and paying the interest rather than paying monthly for insurance, woop :)
