Food for litter crew on Monday/Tuesday

It makes a change for me to be asking not answering, LOL, but this year I'm litterpicking for my ticket. Am going to take advantage of being able to arrive early by getting on site either Monday evening or Tuesday. I'm desparate to travel as light as possible so would like to avoid bring a stove and food if I can. So my question is will there be anywhere (either within Tom's Field / Crew Camping or within the site itself where I'll be able to buy food before the festival opens to the public on Wednesday?

Thanks!

Im pretty sure there is food available, as you are litterpicking there should be crew canteens available.
Otherwise all the other staff would be fed (riggers/bin painters etc)

Another option is to ask glasto-worker, he is a man of many answers!

just to confirm
some crews have their own catering - some crews eat at goose hall ' which started catering weeks ago '
its marked at 16-i
+ in the past { likely to be the same this year }
the Bread and Roses will be open to ' workers ' from the Sunday evening
in the past they used to do ' Berlin Air Drops ' but that upset the neighbours
Don't forget that your GFL Crew wrist band will get you into the backstage area before Wednesday - so you can check out where the great and good hide out.
one year { god knows what bloody year } the BBC had a Outdoor ' indoor area ' so their presenters could give the impression they were outside when in fact they were inside - they had a few straw bails but trust me it was all fake .
I was very tempted to fill up a bucket of mud and toss it on them but that may not have gone down so well.
its only after Glasto was I able to play it back and was very tempted to kick in the screen as they made a big play about ' suffering like the normal punters ' when in fact they were staying in huge Winnebago's with satellite TV - roughing it they were not .

Yep, you have the option of Tom's field or some traders will be open for business from Monday morning. Definitely no need to bring the stove :)

Awesome. The stove's not heavy but when you're on the train, every little bit of saved weight helps.

Just watch your timing for getting there, the portacabin where you collect your ticket/wristband will only be open between certain times. I think they were in your shift email from Fiona. And welcome to the wombles....where you working?

And why not, it's a different festival before the punters get in! Well if you see a big bald bloke with a madness tattoo on his leg pop over and say hi!! We're friendly bunch with lots of cider on the recycling!

Hi pie and a pint! I'm working on behalf of sebastians action trust too :) I came here for answers instead of pestering Jim every other day haha!

I'm aiming to get there on the Monday too as want to see the site before the crowds arrive! Be good to meet up on the Monday if you wanted.

Is this true crew members are allowed a nose around the backstage area before the Wednesday????

Generally speaking there isn't any pass based access control before Wednesday.

That said, it's important to use some common sense.

Stay out of work areas. If there's equipment laid out on the ground, people in high vis and hard hats, unfinished structures, etc, then observe from a distance, but keep well clear. It's partly out of respect for the build crews trying to get stuff done, but also related to licensing too. Mendip have inspectors checking that crew in build areas have the right PPE. Randoms on a sight-see could be flagged up as an infraction.

This wasn't so serious ten years ago, but these days I won't even go in the work area of the stage I work for, unless I'm actually working - despite having a AAA for that area after gates open.

Another general tip is that before the gates open, treat vehicles on the tracks as having priority over pedestrians. So walk on the grass at the side, or step aside to let vehicles pass you safely. There's often plant like telehandlers (a fork truck) going from one job to another, and they need to get around unhindered.

In some areas, where there's a big draw for crew sightseeing - like the SE corner - there will be barriers out to make it clear that's not yet ready for a look-around. Don't be tempted to split the barriers and wander in, even if nobody is working. Some stages will also have stewards on - a clear sign that they are out of bounds.

Personally I wouldn't go into interstage by Tuesday - it's quite a sensitive area, and tbh there's not a lot to see apart from a hell of a lot of trucks!

But despite all that, if you use your nous, there's loads to see without ever getting in the way. By Tuesday night, there are around 20,000 people on site, loads just having a look around having finished work or waiting for it to start. It's a really magical time - you'll absolutely love it.

And if you fancy a lively bar for a drink, there's Maceos in Block 9, The Tow and Hitch in Arcadia, and Wally's near Shangri-La (and several more). All crew welcome, and they will all be rammed on Tuesday night :)

Oh and one final recommendation - after dark on Tuesday, climb up the hill behind the park. Seeing the festival site all lit up and looking perfect, really is a marvel.

Seeing it all before gates open is a great reward for the voluntary work you'll be doing for your charity. :)
