I went by train last year and it was great. But we left about 1pm.

Has anyone ever gone on the very first train, think it's 7.15am? Is it as horrifically packed as I am imagining? Are the first few trains so busy people get turned away? I dont mind standing up and discomfort, but I do mind not getting on at all!

cheers

Got the first train from Paddington last year!

It was very busy as expected with working commuters also on board - brace yourself.

I don't think anyone got turned away, but as you've already explained be prepared to stand up and packed in with everyone's luggage.

Just try to enjoy it as much as you can :)

I could imagine with all your camping equipment and luggage it would be quite a struggle! Have you considered a car share?

well there is a crowd of us and going by train last year was so much more pleasant than by car. A few cans, bit of a laugh, no worrying about someone who has spent the whole week smashed out of their brains driving you home...Plus it's much quicker. I cant speak highly enough of going by train!

Well I'm not worried about a crush or being stood up - it's only 90mins or so - just want to make sure I can squeeze on. Sounds like it's not going to be a problem so I can relax. So long as there is enough room to raise my can to my lips I'll be happy.

We are taking a beast of an 8 man tent with us, so it is going to be very interesting!

I got the first train out of Paddington last year, was a breeze.

Turned up at around 6:45, grabbed some breakfast and then easily managed to get seats for 3 of us on there just by keeping a beady eye on the board for the platform number and having a fast walk when it was announced.
