Most players are. But 261 club goals, 2nd all time Premier League scorer, Englands top scorer with 51, 5 leagues, a champions league. Not bad!

Yep, not bad. I made a point of saying that.

But no, of course hes no Messi or Ronaldo. Nowhere close.

Which was my point.

Consider him on his form and impact today against the form and impact of alternatives. He stays home.

Can you leave the qualifying groups top scorer at home?

but that's pretty much a self-fulfilling thing, him being a scorer - cos he has to be playing to score.

If the same opportunities had been given to another player, then it's quite possible that other player might have outscored Rooney.

(in theory, anyway ... there's not really a single player who might go this summer who might have also played in all of the qualies, because of age [Kane], injuries [Sturridge] or coming-to-prominence [Vardy]).

Forget about the numbers, his performances in tournaments has been poor. Anyone actually watching the games could see that.

Although he has been one poor player amongst many. If you only play people who have performed in international tournaments it's a small list for England. If you pick purely on club form you end up with very little big match experience. A conservative manager like Hodgson will probably look for a mix between experience and form.

Utd would be bat shit crazy not to jump at that!  (if true). He is not worth the 300K a week he is on now..............

Dump him and invest............

Rooney will probably use the interest to get another pay rise! I can't see him going to China, I have always got the impression he is a bit of a homeboy.

I can't really see United trying to hard to keep him this time. With his wages and his performances, they might try and engineer a move.

I think he's still got 3 years left on his 250k a week wages. With many of the massive earners at Old Trafford gone, the money men would love Rooney gone.

Rooney will still probably get the scoring record at United this season, after that he's gone imo.

Agree

Although without knowing how much Rooney makes United, it's hard to say if he's worth it.

yeah, I reckon the homeboy thing might be right - tho from what's been written in the past there's supposedly an element of Coleen in the mix for them not wanting to move, cos she cares for a disabled cousin or something.

Cant see him moving to China. He can barely speak English.

Hes worth about 80 million quid. I reckon he'll go back to the Ev to finish his career. 2 or 3 seasons time. Wouldn't even have to move house.

MLS for a few years maybe?

Given that I reckon Utd will want him off their books pretty sharpish because of his high wages, it's the obvious option I guess. Tho I'm not sure they're paying big wages over there very much now. Ashley Cole is supposedly on $350k a year at LA Galaxy.

I've heard the Rooney back to Everton rumour on the back of the new owners, though the buy out seems to have gone quiet recently...

I was thinking the Stones and Lukaku situation may complicate it if they are off in the summer. The figure quoted was £200m, and considering the numbers floated about in the press for those players 1 years tv money + stones + Lukaku and there is your money back right there.

I think MLS would be an option if out of contract.  For what its worth I don't believe he is one of those players purely motivated by money, therefore I can see him happily staying at Man Utd around home comforts and taking home a huge wage, rather than the challenges of moving away for more.

As for how desperate Man Utd are to get rid it will depend on how much they perceive his brand to be worth to the club, as well as his contributions on the pitch,

his wages are waaaaay beyond his contribution on the pitch.

Which is why I reckon they'll do their best to push him out the door in the summer cos there's a massive rebuilding job to do, and Rooney's overly-large pay packet could be contributing to the rebuilding.

There's not much value in propping up Brand Rooney while Brand Utd is going down the pan.

I'm sure they would like him off the wage bill. However that requires a club to be willing to pay him the wages and him to be willing to join that club.

If his wages are waay above his contribution then what is the incentive to leave that wage and home comforts behind. I still believe he stays until his contract expires.

yep, but there's 'encouragement' they can give him with that.

Yep, that's the big problem for Utd, that there doesn't appear to be much motivation for Rooney to move on. But, like I say above, there's 'encouragement' they can give him with that.

If Moaniho is the new manager it's always possible, I guess, that he'd want to keep him as he's made lots of complimentary words in his direction in the past ... but those were about a younger fitter better Rooney, and there's a strong likelihood those words were driven more by Roman's wants that Jose's.

My own take is that Utd will want Rooney gone in the summer, but whether they're able to make that happen is something else.
