Yeah you'll be telling me next that Blackburn's Premier League trophy was more about Dalglish than Walker

I can 100% confirm this was down to Paul Warhurst and his terrific hair.

In all seriousness, Pellegrini is still underrated imo, the players just want Pep.

I think this week pretty much sums up Liverpools whole season, no top 4 so we have to try and win the Europa to get into the champions league and to win atleast a trophy.

Same boat as man utd, but the way some act either winning would be like Greece winning the euro's. There are no great sides in the tournament and some have other priorities. Both should feel they have a realistic chance of going all the way. Out of interest does anyone know what happens to the champions league places if man city win the champions league and Liverpool win Europa and both finish outside the top 4. Think amazingly unlikely, but just interested in the rules.

Any thoughts about the FIFA election. I cant see any of the candidates reforming FIFA in a good way and think it will be more of the same.   I kind of hope Sexwale wins because he has a funny name, as I cant think of anything positive about the others.

I don't think that Infantino is as bad as Platini or Blatter (is that possible?), but he does have the resemblance of a Film bad guy, with his European Accent, Bald head, and association in football.

I feel if this Prince Ali gets it, we'll just see Football become a Gulf play toy.

All the rest have no chance surely?

All the reports suggest sheikh Salman. My concern about Infantino would be that he could be a patsy for top European clubs who already have enough power.

I agree, tho I think FIFA will be reformed anyway, just by the fact of the scandal.

Tho it's going to take time, because every national association is corrupt too and is used to having to deal in corrupt ways.

Infantino makes some good noises about transparency but a 40-team World Cup split over multiple hosts just makes my heart sink. I agree that Japanese Sex Whale would provide consistent chuckles.

Increased team world cup I would support, but I hate the ideas of multiple hosts.

I worry if Infantino is in charge that power moves from countries to top European clubs .To me Europe pulling most of the strings in the club and international game is not good for the sport.

Yeah this follows on from the Euros discussion, those representing nations not good enough to qualify will always be attracted by promises of more places, and I'm sure he knows that.

Well there is no mathematical formula to determine the optimal amount of teams (both in total and for each region) at a world cup.  I have no problems with that number being up for debate.  As more are excluded than included those left out by the current criteria will always be the majority, however I dont think the rules should always be dictated by the minority big teams.

I suspect that Europe arent trusted within FIFA which will mean a European candidate cannot prevail.  I think Infantino expansion idea is an attempt to counter that mistrust, but I dont think it will be successful.

I'm 99% sure if you win the Champions League you have to defend it the year after and same with Europe if you win that then you should go to the champions league regardless of your state in the league table. Liverpool and Man Utd most likely won't win it and will be lucky if they both win their next rounds, It now feels like big premier league clubs have to have a "lucky" day to win someone in europe rather than them just winning them with ease. The amount of money spent on players from both sides and the quality they produce from that money is horrid.

Of course, but every team (even the favourites Dortmund) are more likely not to win it, than to win it. However someone has to win the tournament.  When I look at the teams left they are generally very evenly matched and theres probably around 10 teams who could win it and I would put the 3 English sides in that category.

The number of teams that should qualify for a World Cup Finals is subjective.

However, my opinion is that it shouldn't be extended any further than it is currently. Otherwise you end up with too many knockout rounds and/or a bloated and largely pointless extended number of group games.

All that will do is make the competition longer in length. It was a month last time from start to finish (32 days). Just how much longer do people want it?

Europe league draws:

Braga (POR)
Valencia (ESP)
Liverpool (ENG)
Sparta Prague (CZE)
Lazio (ITA)
Shakhtar Donetsk (UKR)
Athletic Bilbao (ESP)
Bayer Leverkusen (GER)
Tottenham (ENG)
Borussia Dortmund (GER)
Fenerbahce (TUR)
Anderlecht (BEL)
Manchester United (ENG)
Sevilla (ESP)
Villarreal (ESP)
Basel (SUI)

I would like to seen valencia vs utd since Neville will be against his old club

I think football fans too often look at everything as great or terrible. As most he is somewhere in the middle. He wouldn't have achieved as much if he was a terrible manager.

He has dismantled Mancini's team and we can not defend without Kompany. He continually makes the same mistakes and seems totally oblivious to what is going on in front of him.

For 3 years he has had the best players in the country at his disposal. He should have achieved far more than what he has.
