The passing of Garde not been mentioned? Where's our token Villa fan with his thoughts?

Wonder whether the next appointment will be on similar lines or whether they'll go for an experienced championship manager. Someone like Nigel Pearson?

It was never going to work, Garde would be better as a long-term appointment at a steady club. Villa were/are far from steady and didn't/don't have the luxury to plan long-term due to impending relegation. They were too quick to rule out someone like Moyes, I don't know why they thought at that time they were too good for or didn't need a survival specialist but now they need to be realistic about what they are and appoint accordingly.

And who are you suggesting was an alternative to those two,

Im not. Im simply commenting on the fact that such a "giant" in world football could only come up with two shit options as national manager. Thats a joke. A very poor reflection

Clown as he may be I still think Harry could do a better job than Woy, but im not saying he would do so well as to "bring football home". I get the impression players like Harry and thats a great start for a national manager considering how little time they spend with em. But its all moot. That ship has sailed and England are stuck with Wooney lovin Woy at €500K a game.

England aren't a giant, and the dearth of English managers is nothing new. Not sure who you're trying to mock by using the term "giant" when I doubt anyone here actually believes that.

and yet ..... who is there that might replace him?

There's no obvious contenders, and Nev has supposedly been arse licking all the right arses.

id have thought valencia's disaster would be enough to say no.

brendan rodgers would be good bet

For all the huge debates about international manager, I tend to think it doesn't make a huge difference. England have tried loads of different managers and got pretty similar results in recent years.

The quality of players is by far the biggest factor in international success, I think the choice of manager is pretty marginal

I agree, particularly when woy seemingly passes his ideas for the team on by telepathy.

But it doesn't fit the narrative footie likes to have about itself, so we'll get someone mediocre but with high praise again. ;)

I'd be interested how that differs from club football

I think its still a small effect, but probably more than at the international level.  I know its a hypothetical situation, but I would generally back the 20th best manager with the 1st best squad playing the best manager with the worst squad. I think back to the 2006 world cup when Domenech was nearly a world cup winning manager.  Everything I have read suggests that the players pretty much ignored him and did their own thing.  I think that's possible when you only have to spend the odd week with a manager during qualifying, or a few weeks during a tournament.  I think you put the same manager in a club environment and those deficiencies start to have an impact earlier.

Ha Ha! UEFA are a bunch of idiots!

The illicit chanting Liverpool are being charged with? One would think the retarded references to Munich, no?

Nope. Liverpool are being charged because their fans chanted "Manchester is full of shit"

No mention in the UEFA report of the Munich chants, or the Utd fans chanting about murderers.

They really haven't got a clue.

UEFA should be staying out of this issue completely, its something that should be dealt with by the individual clubs.  There seems to be plenty of times they turn a blind eye to racism.

They definitely are a giant when it comes to the financial package they offer the manager.

Exactly

So because they offer a large financial package that should generate more quality English options? Makes perfect sense.
