Aren't Milan also coming off the back of a horrendous season, or was that inter?

Both. Inter finished 8th. Italian footie is in an awful state. Both Milan clubs saw nearly a 10% decline in attendances last season. And that was from an low base the previous season. The stadiums are in bits. None of them have really been renovated since 1990 World Cup.

I can't think of any that have. Not of the bigger clubs anyway. Inter/Milan, Sampdoria/Genoa, Roma/Lazio, Napoli, all not touched since 1990 or earlier. Just Juve that have a new ground, and Torino have gone back to their old ground following the demolition of the Delle Alpi.

True but hes a cancer. Hence why he hasnt even being training with Liverpool. He disrupts squads and does fuck all on the pitch. Ill do that for low (football) wages!

Has he been disruptive within the liverpool squad? I know he has that repuatation, but not sure I have read many specific examples on how he has disrupted the squad since he joined. Sometimes players are stopped training with the first team to try and force them out, rather than the disruption they are causing

Althought both Milan clubs have spent quite a bit of money in the summer. I see serie A being more competitive with Juve adapting to life without Pirlo, Tevez and Vidal.

Its still only 6 points. The points swing thing can be over played at times. If Liverpool beat Utd twice or vice versa they will only be 6 points better off

Yes but the other one will be 6 points worse off than if they'd won them both. So in terms of competition between the two, you're 12 points better off if you win them rather than lose them.

But if (say) Utd lose to WBA and S'land, and LFC don't, the LFC/Utd results cease to matter a jot to the big picture.

And putting this into the real world, Utd are now the sort of team who are likely to put big efforts into the Liverpool game and might win them, while cocking up too many other matches for it to be of benefit to them.

That might not be how it pans out of course, but with LvG's record to date it's hardly an odd call.

I didn't disagree that it's better to win. I merely disagree with the decisiveness towards finishing positions of any win (for either team).

Those sorts of results are more important the higher up the table a team is - and none of us seem to be expecting either team to be at the top. They will both lose a number of games, and it's the total points dropped that will matter, not the results against each other.

Yes I get that, but if you assume United are slightly better than Liverpool, and results over the other 36 fixtures for each club reflect this slight difference in ability, United will be a few points ahead of Liverpool without the two games between them being taken into account. Therefore Liverpool winning their games against United would be paramount to them being able to finish 4th.

I (and nobody else) am not saying they have to win them, just that the games between the two are the most important games when considering who will finish highest.

so what you're saying is, if you pre-decide all the other results to cause Liverpool to need the points off Utd, Liverpool need the points off Utd?

I wish i had your analytical skills. :P

Udinese have, Roma are planning a new stadium at the moment and Napoli are planning a refurb. All a little too late though. Apparently its all down to Italy being broke and the local authorities not willing to invest.

Always ordered food at home instead of eating at Melwood with the team before and after training.

Interrupting one of the coaches in mid speech by shouting at Jon Flanagan (who was on the other side of the pitch) when he got injured

Banned from driving for speeding

Stayed up until 2am in the hotel the night before a CL game against Basel, Rodgers had to tell him to go to bed. They lost the game.

Got picked with the kids/reserves in a training game and and scored an own goal from the halfway line for a laugh.

Still didn't know a lot of the players names by Christmas time.

Brought his dogs to training and he let his mates into Melwood aswell.

Milan have put a "refrain from provocative actions or gestures on or off the field" clause in his contract!

He has nothing on Diafra Sakho mind you. "Arrested on suspicion of making threats to kill"

If there are 6 apples and both Man Utd and Liverpool are hungry, but Man Utd take all 6 apples, how many apples are Man Utd better off than Liverpool?

I'm amazed at the u-turns so many people have made a mere 3 games in. Dismissing city seemed crazy to me a month ago but those same people are suggesting they're now dead certs without an aguero injury. Chelsea and arsenal aren't worse teams than they were 3 weeks ago. Rooney isn't a worse player. Too much is being made of results in August.

my bruv is off to SV Werder Bremen V Borussia Mönchengladbach at the weekend.

You been to Bremen, TGT? It's not impossible that I might be out there for a game sometime soon.

Coincidentally, I went to exactly the same game 18 months ago. 1-1 draw IIRC, enjoyed the game, ground, supporters, and the city. Your brother should enjoy himself. Edited by TheGayTent

his missus is a Bremen fan (she's a local), and he's a Mönchengladbach fan (I've no idea why) who lives in Breman half-time. I don't think they need to see the city. :P

Not gonna dispute that, but the talk about him is pretty exaggerated.

He's always been quite a big step below the best forwards in the world. Nothing has changed there has it? He's also always been a player that has goal scoring streaks and barren streaks. Nothing has changed there has it?

The only thing that has changed is him being messed about in the last few seasons with regard to his position.

Yup. I don't think there's some incredible decline like has been suggested in some places.

Half man half biscuit?

no no no. Not a chance.

Understandable, they're known as the Liverpool of Germany...

:P

He spent some time in Germany when he was around 15 (1977-ish) so it probably originates from that time (it might be where he stayed) rather than something he's taken on in the last decade when he's been living or half-living in Germany.

How easy is it to get tickets for a German game? I really want to start going to some matches abroad and doing a city break at the same time. Germany is the obvious first destination.

I also want to go to a game in turkey, is that wise? anyone have any experience?

I've never thought Rooney was as good as people have made out. But I have to point out that its not just the last few seasons where he has been moved about positionally.

I'm a firm believer that his best position is attacking midfield/ number 10.

I'd have an England set up of: (fitness allowing)

Wilshere Henderson Rooney (midfield 3)

Chamberlain Sterling (wide)

And one of Kane, Sturridge, Welbeck , Walcott etc up top
