I think they have restricted themselves by taking Navas who I think is a pretty average keeper. Unless they sign big tomorrow, its a pretty medicore summer of business in my opinion.

I think it's been a good window, just not filled all the holes. We needed a RB and we have one that can actually defend, midfield has been sorted.

LVG is slowly rebuilding but he does make odd decisions. Letting Hernandez, janusaj and possibly Wilson go out on loan when United are already light seems odd.

Slowly rebuilding is one way of looking at it. Spending nearly a quarter of a billion euro in 12 months is another....

I would be interested to know how much the club has really invested in the playing squad this summer. While they have bought in a few costly players, they have got rid of a shitload. I imagine the wage bill has also taken a decent cut.

Well di Maria, nani, rvp and falcao has taken around 45m per year of the wage bill. Then add in the likes of Rafael, Hernandez, cleverly, Evans etc etc they have made a fairly hefty saving.

This year with the incoming and outgoings they haven't spent to much.

Whether actual overall spend is low or high is not really the point.... There's nothing slow when you are spending that kinda cash on one hand and shifting bodies out on the other.

I actually think the overall spend is quite interesting. For all the huge amounts of money swashing around the league. Of the bigger teams only City seem to have a large overall spend this season. Makes you wonder where the money is going!

RB and Midfield sorted. Striker option was a joke but a panic buy and someone was needed. De Gea for £29 + Keylor Navas was a great bit of business for United, Keylor might not be the best but with De Gea having 1 year left it;s the absolute max they could hope for. Madrid bit because of the paper work getting done and the deal is pretty much £34/35m overall.

Hernandez out for how much he was going to play is probably good unfortunately, at 27 he needs game time and with United needing a strong striker up top, even to play consistent he isn't good enough to lead a line by himself and 9/10 times top Prem teams will only play a sole striker with a two or three pronged attack supporting.

It's a CB that's needed and Januzaj needed to stay and get given the RWF role, Mata pushed the the CAM role which EVERYONE knows and Rooney to play CM where he was so good last year. You then have Herrera and Schniderlin as strong CDM and CM options and don't outrun the older Carrick and Schweinsteiger. Evans at £8 for how much he gets injured is probably a good bit if business as well. Jones/Rojo (when fit) should be playing CB with Smalling, Blind should be rotating with Shaw who's started well this year. Jones also an option for RB and likes to get forward but Darmian is better, less at getting forward though.

As for LVG, absolute sack of shit! But, I agree with Schmiechel that not getting Pedro was alright, quick fix but long term they'll be replacing him in a couple of seasons when that bit of pace has gone and he's not as effective.

Dick Advocat made a valid point.

Owners spend a lot of money, but basically fuck all in return. Why would you keep spending, especially when you've spent a lifetime building your fortune up.

For example balotelli & markovich 36m in transfers + wages, return? Fuck all.

Another example United spent around 100m on transfers plus wages on nani and Anderson.

Nah it's all about possession and the process.

God I can't stand that line. TBF to United, Romero on a free, Darmian, Schweinsteiger, Blind, Schneiderlin and Depay were all covered in the sales of Van Persie, Anderson Di Maria and Nani by transfer and wages. That's without Hernandez, Januzaj on loan and Evans with transfer and wages now. All they've actually spent since then is 36.6m today obviously. Sky Sports forget to tell you what we made back, they'll you the £250+ spend though, that's about £90m back + wages. Di Maria and Van Persie's wages will have split well over the 6 players we brought in as they won't be on outrageous wages, it won't cover all probably but it'll go a long way.
