Agreed, many people can take over the richest team in the league and win it, there is no great challenge here.  Succeeding at Liverpool would push Klopp to a whole new level.

Is there a more difficult job in world football? 8th richest club in the world but 5th in their own league. Very few 5 time European Champions out there that havent won their domestic league in nearly 30 seasons. Have sold/lost some of the best players in the world in recent years. Heady fucking cocktail.

I do because I would like to see England lose one of those 4 places! The reality is these teams will fall in the second half of the season as they always do.

Bilic is going work even more magic, I remain ever hopeful if he sorts out the form against smaller sides. (You've got to have dreams :P)

He's Welsh.

That said, with the disgraceful attitude English clubs have towards the Europa we don't deserve as many European places as we get. I don't WANT the spots reduced but if it happens then it'll be our own fault.

I will laugh humongously if the next time Liverpool or Spurs finish 4th is when the English places are cut due to them sacking off the Europa year on year. Serve the fuckers right.

Yup and the smaller clubs when they get in via a cup or a lucky league run. Constant bollocks from the boards about wanting to build to get in to European places and when it comes down it they tell the manager to slack it off for premier league safety on a budget.

As a neutral the European super league wouldn't really bother me.  Most top sides are now just collections of worldwide players, so Im not sure it really matters if they play other collections from the same nation or another one.

In some ways , at least the smaller clubs might win something now and again.

I hope Liverpool fuck up talks Klopp and end up having to call Big Sam.

Never know, Klopp might just not be able to manage a team like Liverpool. Some teams are just not suited to certain managers.

There are very few that can manage LFC. A near impossible club to run without oil money - and then it wouldnt be the same would it.

Klopp is such a likeable character as well, as a neutral I'd love to see Klopp in the PL and I think he'd suit Liverpool, re: his passion and determination. He'd get the best out of the squad for sure.

People will point out his ending at Dortmund but he ended at Mainz in a similar way.

I don't think Liverpool's squad is good enough for Top 4, but Klopp could bring them back in if one of the usuals underperforms as Chelsea etc. are now.

The issue I have with a European super league is how entrenched it'd be. At least there's the potential for upsets and changes and new dynamics entering at present, whereas I can't see a super league having any sort of relegation or way for others to break the barriers and enter it.

Regarding Scottish football, how does the mid season split work? I've never understood that bit.

It's not mid season. It's five games from the end. Basically, to extend the number of games to 38, and also to add some excitement to mid table games. It has worked for the latter thing actually. Seen a couple of sell outs for games deciding who gets into the top six. I don't mind it personally.

So it just splits and then everyone in each half plays each other once more? What decides home/away etc?

Yes.

As for the second question, I have no idea how they come up with it. It's probably the least fair aspect of the whole thing, and someone is always going to get shafted.

The squad is awful to be fair.

:)

There are no "great" players in the LFC squad at the moment, but a lot of good young players. In that shite division a fit Sturridge and JK gets LFC 4th place. They're 6 points from 1st place at the moment FFS. Laughable standard.

well, I'd say Liverpool under it's next manager has a better hope of hitting top 4 than Utd did under Moyes.

Despite Moyes having a title winning squad, Liverpool's squad today is better than Utd's was then.

But moyes United didn't hit top 4.

Is it a better squad? Seriously?

How many of those players are still getting games 18 months later? They certainly weren't a great set of players.

In all seriousness it's hard to say whether Liverpool have better players, tho at the same time they look more like players who can play better than they have been, while those Utd players looked like they had very little and would give very little once fergie had gone.

I guess what I'm saying is that I can see those Liverpool players being able to up their game, while it was hard to see how those Utd players could (and LvG seems to have agreed with my take on those Utd players).

I don't really agree, I don't think liverpools mediocre form is due to the players significantly underperforming. I think many of the players just don't have the potential to get much better. To me the transfer committee (partly their fault, partly not) have bought in too many 6th_

- 10th standard players and there's only so far they can go. Everything seems to be based on sturridge staying fit and firminio settling, both at best 50 percent likely. Of course its up to the new manager to prove me wrong and get more from the players than I see there.

there's more decent players in that squad than you're crediting.

There's three (or more?) England first-choicers. There's also a German first choicer.

There's Coutinho. There's Firmino (who's stats say he'll come good).

The problem isn't the quality of the players, it's getting the players playing well together - something Rodgers has already shown is easily possible.
