They did play to a sell out crowd of 25,000 people last week. With very little support from mainstream sources, they can pull a crowd.

Whilst this is true, and I'm a Courteeners fan, the fact that they got a crowd of 25,000 was simply as it was a gig ok Manchester.

If it were a gig in London, they would have been lucky to get 250 to attend.

Could Coldplay or Blur possibly sub? Maybe they wanted to let Florence and her Machine headline and have their moment in the limelight, but are still willing to step in and do the festival a favour?

Wouldn't mind if either of those did.

Both pretty humble and supportive of the festival and British musicians?

I'd really like to see either stereophonics or the strokes do it however. Two bands I'm yet to see.

What ever happened to travis? Never got to see them either..

Yes, the location had a huge influence. I'm just making the suggestion to satisfy my own selfish clash issues!

I'm actually hoping whoever it is, I have no interest in seeing. That would also help things....

Didnt they sell out the 100 club in seconds? which is 350 people...so they can comfortably get a crowd of 250 in london

Let's be honest with Courteeners. They're massive in Manchester and anywhere else they're an Academy-sized band. Nowhere near sub level. Subbing the Other would be okay, third, where they are at the moment, is probably just right. I loved their debut but everything since bar the odd single has been terrible. His lyrics have been getting progressively worse for the last couple of years, borderline cringeworthy. Maybe I'm just not 17 anymore (Not Nineteen Forever etc)

I think Kylie would be more likely than The Strokes if it's a BST act. I'd be happy enough with The Strokes as I doubt I'd ever pay to see them given they look pretty hit and miss live but might see them at a festival.

A Kylie show needs too much pre-production and too many staff. It needs to be a band that can turn up, get-in with a smal crew (as even if they're touring, not all the regular crew will necessarily be available that day) and do the business without requiring anything specific from the festival.

Had they not said it was a band already, I'd have put money on Ed Sheeran if he's free. As he can literally do it on his own.

If the money is put to them, I don't think The Strokes would worry about being a replacement band subbing. I seen them sub the 2nd stage at TITP in 2011. Was a very strong lineup that year mind for big names.

Yeah I suppose. I just really don't think it will be The Strokes and figured they'd be more likely to go for Kylie, though neither are particularly likely.
