Gucci Piggy
My friend told me last night that he googled something to find out who was replacing Flo, and ended up on some thread where people were discussing the possibility of some band he'd never heard of called James, and then saw me posting in it. Classic.

Chimps in Balaclavas
Apologies if this has already been posted 30 March 2004 Darkness singer Justin Hawkins has launched a vicious tabloid attack against the Glastonbury Festival, following Michael Eavis' alleged comments that the band wanted an extortionate sum to perform this year... A report in the Daily Mirror had, a couple of weeks back, quoted Eavis suggesting that the glam rockers had outgrown their boots in the last year, having demanded no less than a cool million to perform at Glasto 2004. This level of inflation was more than the festival was prepared to accept, since the band had famously played bottom of the bill a mere year before, for a humble £75! Hawkins' weapon of choice for the counter-attack was today's The Sun newspaper, in which he ranted: "Eavis is a c**k. We don't deal with f**king arseholes. We were speaking to all the big events before Christmas and Glastonbury was on the list. But Eavis said he thought we wouldn't be around for the festival in June. It's his loss. Our decision not to play Glastonbury is nothing to do with cash. "Of course we asked for a lot - we're the best band around. Michael Eavis is just annoyed that he missed the boat. He came back to us after he realised his mistake. But it was too late. We'd already agreed to do the Carling Festival for a lot less money. So he's lost out. Glastonbury is all about sitting in a field and buying funny hats. "When I go to a festival it's because I want to see bands and like the line-up. I never went to Glastonbury until we played there. Don't bother with Glastonbury unless you want to stand in a field and be healed. Reading is about the rock." Where are they now!?
mungo57
Just read that article and remembered how big The Darkness were, for about 1 year off the back one shite song. Heady days for rock n roll. At least you didn't have to watch them at Reading when they headlined off the back of the one album after being subbed by the Offspring who pissed all over them........ I loved Permission to Land at the time but my god that was shit
Mouseboy11
I like that he refers to what I assume is Reading as 'The Carling Festival'
mungo57
Wasn't that Darkness song about an STI? Or did I dream that just after my night of passion with Cody Horn? If memory serves yes you are right Growing on Me was about herpes I think

I loved Permission to Land at the time but my god that was shit One of my best ever festival decisions. I was at Reading with a group of about thirty people. I managed to persuade one person to come and see the headliner on the little tent (Carling?) stage instead of The Darkness with everyone else. All the rest came back saying The Darkness were shite, we told them they'd missed out on some new band called Kasabian.

jimmyt
I love The Darkness anyway but I don't get how seeing Kasabian is a happy outcome? I think the fact that I saw something I really enjoyed whilst everyone else saw something they thought was terrible means I made a good choice. The bit I don't get is why anyone would admit to liking something that was only ever at best a parody of an already crap genre but I guess we're all different and amused by different things.
