placidjw
Hi all, I'm heading down to this year's festival on Tuesday night from SW London and was hoping to get into the Orange car parks close to Gate D. Could anyone who's tried this before tell me whether it's viable to head along the A361 from Pilton without getting forced into a car park on the east side at this time? I assumed this would happen last year so ended up doing a massive detour along the M5 which added over an hour to my journey. If the A361 is not viable could anyone please suggest some good alternatives? Thanks a lot,
incident
The festival has an obligation to minimise the amount of traffic going through Pilton Village and so Traffic Marshalls will generally try and deter people going that way. You might be able to go that way but that the very least it's a bit anti-social / unhelpful to do so.If you're coming from SW London, I'm going to assume you're using the most logical route ie the A303 then turning onto the A37 at Podimore Roundabout. When you get to Podimore, instead of turning onto the A37, take the exit before and then follow the signs for Street. You can then go through Street & Glastonbury Town and end up approaching from the West with a much reduced detour.

Thanks very much for your reply; I'd assumed that at around 1am when I'd be arriving that traffic would be fairly light along the A361 so it might be doable, but I accept your point. Is this the route you are advising? Edited June 21, 2015 by placidjw
incident
Yeah basically that.Having just checked it on Google Maps, it's only about 1 mile / 5 minutes longer than going through Pilton anyway so shouldn't really be an issue. It's possible to do it a shade shorter by not going all the way to Street, but the reason I suggested that route is it's one you can navigate easily just by road signs (ie from Podimore Roundabout, follow the signs for Street, then Glastonbury (town), and then the Festival and you'll get there. Saves messing around with maps etc.
