Anyone get the sense the end of Glastonbury is nigh?

Sorry guys - every time I have a bad feeling it comes true. This was especially the case with some life events last year and now I have it again with Glastonbury.

Although, I think if there is news it is going to be that Michael will officially retire tomorrow.

I can't really describe how I feel though if it is about the festival ending or moving. Heartbroken really? But when I look back he said in 2011 that the festival only has a few years left.

Even stuff like browsing these forums has become a part of my daily routine.

Just don't understand how the biggest festival in the world is under threat?

Just read those 3 articles - what a crock of sh*te

1)?wristbands worn for two years get a lot of bacteria, um well, yes...

2) I didn't like Glastonbury once so STOP IT FOR EVERYONE

3) Litter one had a point, but it's hardly End of Days. Litter is crap, but ultimately it does get cleared up (not that it should have to)

Yea i'm in a very similar position

Why does normal life have to get in the way of those 5 days in June eh?

I sense a spot of sarcasm - but I've been pretty philosophical about it this week, Glastonbury is an escape from the pressures and essentially servitude of the real world. Not being able to go for a period will be fine as I'll not get that glimpse of freedom for a while and start to conform fully again.

Edit: how funny this popped up on my Facebook just now http://expandedconsciousness.com/2015/01/09/joe-rogan-love-society-trap-work-meaningless/

The recent problems with the Boomtown site license show just how difficult it can be just to keep the local authorities on the side of that festival - let alone a 200K one in the form of a relocated Glasto! Still cant see it moving there. As for Windsor - cant think of anywhere more rediculous. Mind you, the idea of the festival moving at all is completely rediculous to me. It stops becoming Glastonbury at that point.

I fully believe that there's no desire from Michael/Emily/Nick to move the Festival, to downsize it, or to stop entirely.

We're hearing strong whispers that Emily & Nick are seriously considering running a festival away from Worthy Farm in the near-ish future.

As far as we're aware tho, there's nothing firmly in place at the moment, so we'll have to wait and see how this pans out.

Guessing that would be instead of, rather than in conjunction with Glastonbury?

(i.e) Not a Bestival/Camp Bestival situation?

That way the could pitch it as a parallel kind of thing rather than a replacement, avoiding the situation where the new site/festival is inevitably compared unfavourably with Worthy Farm. If it's something else rather than claiming to actually be Glastonbury then it has the potential to succeed in its own right, rather than being an imprecise and poor copy of the original.

I don't envy them, but I am tempted to go.

To be honest, I was wondering this when people were discussing moving Glasto - they've probably got the best festival organising infrastructure and contacts in the world - and could probably do something quite impressive in a different setting.

They would have different opportunities (and obstacles) than those at Worthy Farm and it would be interesting to see what they could come up with.

Of course I really hope that it is in addition to Glasto, rather than instead of - a fallow year would be the most obvious time to do it. I can't see how you could organise two events like that in a year and not die.

However, I suppose if it was successful then it might mean that fallow years would happen more often...

Do you have any timeframes or potential new sites? Should we expect an article on the site later with more details, or is what you're hearing still kinda vague at the moment?

Not a clue on details, because we know currently that there are no details - just a serious idea to try and do it.

No, there won't be a story. There's little of substance to say.

The key detail is if it's in addition to Glastonbury.

If it's in addition to it, then if it's also a quite distinctly different festival it could actually strengthen the future of the festival, bringing in more money for GFL, offsetting future costs etc.

However if it's run in the farms fallow year as a Glasto sized alternative then it could mean something quite different.
