Anyone get the sense the end of Glastonbury is nigh?

It's an incredibly challenging thing to attempt. There's lots they could transplant. You could easily have another Other Stage, West Holts, Williams Green, John Peel and Silver Hayes elsewhere, but another Glade? Maybe, but it would feel very different. Another Park would be odd, another Stone Circle, Flagtopia? And of course, the Pyramid with that glorious natural ampitheatre.

Actually, you'd probably get a much better Other Stag elsewhere, since the arena's currently limited by the railway line in its current position. Mind boggling though - the festival has evolved organically with the land over so many years. Would they attempt to literally 'move Glastonbury' and transplant all the areas to a new site, or would they try to create a new festival infused with the same ideas and energy, perhaps with references to the old site dotted around? I certainly can't imagine calling some place in Winchester "The Pyramid Stage", since we all know "The Pyramid Stage" is in Pilton!

Surely they're moving it out of necessity. What other reason is there?

Ambition.  Michael has been able to continually expand the festival over his years in charge.  What new lands exist for Emily to conquer?

Flippantly put, but most successful people like to advance in their careers in some way.  As has been observed, there's not a lot else that can be done to significantly advance the festival since The Park and the modern SE Corner in 2008/2009.   The Spike and Strummerville don't really compare to the changes of the past.  If she wants to create something new, it would have to be elsewhere.

the (new) Pyramid was always designed as a moveable structure that could be erected on a different site if wanted.

Around the time it was built I was told by the guy who built it that it was likely to be rented out to other events, tho I'm not sure if that's ever tried to be followed thru with.

The festival is so beautifully laid out as it is, that I'm afraid that I'm against the move. My opinion might change in a few years time mind. I can't imagine they'll move it until after 2020.

That makes sense.  It's still early! :)

It is, but it won't stop silly tabloid newspapers running a SHOCK STORY ON GLASTONBURY'S MOVE WHICH IS DEFINITELY DEFINITELY HAPPENING.

IF they are to move the festival, she'll get a torrent of abuse as soon as it hits the news. If you thought the Kanye abuse was bad, you've seen nothing yet.

I meant it was early in the day, which is why I didn't understand the reference to the Twitter account.

I'm definitely blind, thick, or still mega confused from last week...where the hell are you guys reading stuff from? Have a missed a link to something?

Neil's telling us that there a serious talks going on over this and I tend to believe what he says (unless he's telling us that Emile Sande could headline Glastonbury ;) )

I don't think we should see it as moving the festival - rather just trying something different.

Wouldn't want it to replace Glastonbury -  but would be interesting to see what a Glasto-approach could create in a different place.

Am all for it, as long as it isn't the end of Glasto

From a practical point of view that may be true, but not emotionally.  It might be the same bits of metal, but THE Pyramid Stage is in Pilton! Even if technically it's the same stage, you wouldn't be in the arena, which is what people mean when they say "shall we go to the Pyramid Stage", because saying "shall we go to the Pyramid ArenaTM" sounds shit.

So there's no 'new information' since the last comments in that interview that was ran before the festival? (The one where someone on here said Michael had said that was a Sky interview from ages ago?)

The new info is comments on this thread from Scottie/Neil regarding some solid, albeit not detailed information eFestivals have obtained.
