OK - my brain hurts.

Scottie is in shock

Neil has some information

There will be no news story

Have I got this right and what the feck is happening!!

Emily and Nick are actively, seriously looking into putting on another festival on another site.  We don't know whether it's going to replace Glastonbury, run parallel to it, or simply be a trial on the fallow year.

Depends on your definition of dickhead I guess.  I've known plenty of utter bellends who can't pull a few quid together; being a cock seems to be an equal opportunities employer.

It's true, but a well known fact is that the more you have the greater sense of self entitlement it brings. That in my book makes for the type of dickheads that I just can't stand. I'm not cash rich by any means but  in some cases probably fall into the trap along with so many others..

Thank you S2H - I thought that was what was being said............ I can see a paralell thing so see what happens.

I dread to think of the bs the national media will write about it all though!

If they run a parallel festival then the worst thing they could do is try to replicate Glastonbury. It would have to have its own identity ... Which would be extremely difficult, as it will ALWAYS be compared to Glastonbury.

Is there even enough acts to book to be able to do both without having a huge amount of crossover? I doubt it.

Really?  Different kind of entitlement, but how many skint people have felt that they "should" have more money, that it's not fair that they don't have these things?  I guess the difference is that one set already has them and the other doesn't.  The idea of the grateful poor who are just thankful to be there seems a bit....Dickensian!

Don't get me wrong, the gap yah kids who have no idea where the money comes from can be a royal pain in the arse.  But equally some less well-off people are also feckin' irritating, just in different ways.

Increasing ticket prices would probably lead to increasing gentrification of the festival and take it further away from what we know and love, and I wouldn't be a fan of the idea at all.  But it wouldn't necessarily attract more dickheads, just different dickheads.

Put money in the hand of a dickhead and it increases his ability to become more of a dickhead, be it drink or whatever substance he can throw in his body to further enable his dickheadishness and lack of consideration for others.  Therefore I think there would be a direct link between increasing the ticket price and the level of dickhead that would then be able to attend.

I agree that money does not make a dickhead, it merely makes a dickhead worse.

Thanks for doing what I couldn't be bothered to do.

It's a point well made.

They can move it where they like, but I can’t see a new site, starting from scratch being allowed to have the ‘free for all’ elements that Glastonbury has. Unlimited booze, camping near to main stages, etc.. and if they were starting from scratch would we end up with Worthy View type camping in the heart of the festival? I know it’s not what it used to be but Glastonbury is miles away from any other large festival in terms of freedom. Even if you found the perfect location, it would never be allowed to be another Glastonbury by the authorities imo, and with that goes the ethos and atmosphere.

If it’s as well as Glastonbury, then I’m all for it and good luck to them.

The thing that worries me most would be a division of labour forming - Glastonbury #1 concentrating on one thing, and Glastonbury #2 on another.

The unique selling point of Glastonbury is that it manages to combines the big with the little - you can wander from Lionel Richie to a workshop in the crafts field to watching circus acts to The Who.

Every field in Glastonbury has a similar equivalent in another festival, but no festival has everything that Glastonbury does.

I worry that if Glastonbury #2 is just the little things, then less effort (or money) might be spent on those things at Glastonbury #1.

On the other hand, I suppose it's possible they could compete and make things even better.

I guess we have no idea until we find out what type of festival they are thinking of.

There were all those stories just before the festival in which ME was unhappy with the local landowners about the cost of leasing land from them.

A festival elsewhere in the fallow year is a fantastic way to focus their minds. The festival would be announced way early and before proper negotiations started on new rates for use of land.

My guess (just a guess) is that they'll put on a new festival elsewhere in the fallow year.  The following year will still see a festival in Worthy Farm, but a message will have been sent to the neighbours. We don't need you and your land.

And pushing back to the fallow year to 2018 does give them some more time to plan that.

Perhaps there will be a 2018 festival *somewhere* else on a similar scale to current Glastonbury and then in 2019 there will be a significantly scaled down Glastonbury Festival if they cannot resolve the land issues?

Weirdly, I'm quite excited by this news. Not if it replaces Glastonbury mind, but I don't honestly think that's the main intention with this idea, more to make the most of a storng brand and have a back up if things do go tits up with the land issues at Glastonbury.

Can't imagine it being anywhere near the size of Glastonbury though, at least not initally. Like others have said infrastructure and all the rest of it would be a nightmare to implement from scratch on a brand new site. I imagine a relatively small festival in the fallow year with, for instance, enviromnetal/green issues at the heart of the festival rather than as a side issue. Maybe the long term plan is to have two festivals run side by side so that more poeple who apply for tickets can go? Who knows. They know what they're doing though, they're not dumb, so I trust in their plans...
