Sunday Legend 2016

O'Doyle Rules

In Sweet Caroline and I'm A Believer Neil Diamond had two of the biggest and most fun wedding disco songs to ever be played on the Pyramid. Add in things like Cracklin' Rosie, Forever in Blue Jeans and Red, Red Wine and he's doing pretty well.

Not sure what people are arguing for here. Let's make the Legends slot - what? More serious? Less fun? Make it less like a fourth headliner and more like any or other common or garden slot on the Pyramid...?

I dunno, it conflicts me I suppose. *lies down on couch*

I've thought long and hard about Lionel since I came back and whether, if I was watching him anywhere else other than the Pyramid on a Sunday afternoon, I'd have had such a good time.

I've grew up thinking that his output is utter shite (bar Easy), yet there I was dancing and having a great laugh.

At what point would I excuse the quality of the music, as long as they've put on some sort of faux astonishment at the crowd and being there; and play their hits that I recognise?

Edit - That was a rhetorical question by the way.

The ideal world is someone like Barry Gibb playing the Legends Slot to mass acclaim and joy, with the "Waahhh! I hate fun!" element still being placated by, I dunno, Randy Newman or whoever appearing elsewhere on the bill.

I mean, Burt Bacharach is clearly a better, more praiseworthy songwriter than Lionel Richie, but I dunno how dropping the Chin from the bill and wheeling Burt out on the Sunday afternoon would have improved the weekend.

Haven't been in here in a while, what's the stance on Elton John? Paul Simon did it in 2011, Elton can feck off if he reckons he's better than him.

Nah I think by way of being one of the biggest sellers of all time and headlining the few fests he does do, he's got a right to think himself a headline act whether Glasto does or not. Can't believe it's not happened yet.

Piss off, no way Elton's sold more records than Paul Simon....

*employs use of search engine*

Bloody hell, how has Elton sold more records than anybody who has ever played Glastonbury?

I think we decided earlier on in the thread that Elton's doing it next year and Barry Bee Gee is doing it the year after.

Did you watch Paul Simon though? He was dreadful. Even if Elton came on, did candle in the wind, sending the chair brigade weeping into their Daily Mails and walked off again, it would be better.

YouTube's blocked here, but if that's a video of MouseRat, then know this:

The emotions stirred up by L'il Sebastian will be as nothing compared to the outpouring of grief amongst the meerkat masses when Elton dedicates I Just Can't Wait To Be King to Cecil the Lion.

I notice that you care so much about Cecil the Lion but not about this other specific injustice I just thought of off the top of my head, why would that be hmmmmm?

And yes, it is MouseRat, though it is not their magnum opus The Pit.
