they do this.

But not quite how you're thinking.

How do you think they use the forum Neil? I'd always assumed that people from the festival read through the forums to gauge reactions to changes after the fact, as it seems a fairly natural thing to do, but you seem to be suggesting they canvas opinions before they happen.

I'd always thought that other interested parties like MDC must look in here as well. I'm sure the Secret Bars thread must have been of interest to them.

it's not 'think'.

And I'd rather keep these little secrets. :)

Surely nothing to do with the lineup though? Don't think this forum represents what a large percentage would want lineup wise.

I've no idea if these forums influence the line-up or not.

From one angle I'm sure all of the bookers have very strong ideas of what they want to book, and would be quite offended by the idea that they needed to get ideas from other places.

Then again, I've had one of the bookers tell me he's been asking his offspring for ideas - so they don't actually have those fully-formed ideas all by themselves, and there's things that others can tell them.

As for the sorts of acts that people want, I suspect that Glastonbury does so well because it doesn't mindlessly go with what's popular in the way that some other big festivals do. It manages to throw in a few unexpected acts (from a 'popular' point of view) - Patti Smith this year, for example - and generally it's those ones that make Glasto stand out against the crowd.

Is this the place to ask for a CV place by the tarpaulin just round the corner from the Goan fish curry place in West Holts?  There's loads of space there, and it's nearer the stages than West CV parking... ta Emily xxx

Struggling to think of an occasion where there's has been an outcry on here for an act to play and then they subsequently have?!  At least non that weren't pretty much already guaranteed.  The conversation normally begins after the initial rumour - at which point it's probably already in the festivals mind anyway.

There were a lot of calls on here for Hot Chip, SFA and Todd Terje, and to a lesser extent DFA1979, before any rumours, and they all turned up on the lineup. Not surprising, I suppose, but I wonder if our discussions might have had some influence on who the bookers chose...?

I'd say there's always the chance that a name will get mentioned here that wasn't in that booker's mind prior to that, but that would be a different thing to the booker coming looking for suggestions.

In my own somewhat-limited experience of a number of the more-major Glasto bookers, they'd all like to think that they have their own full ideas. After all, that's the core requirement for someone doing that job.

(I don't reckon I could book stages. I'd run out of ideas after a year or two).

But like all of us they will have gaps in their knowledge of bands, or won't have a particular band in mind unless someone prompts them to remember, so their own ideas are likely to get expanded now and then via the input of others.

But also, for the more-mainstream stuff, I reckon that a lot of the bookings are simply the result of what's going around at any time (with some getting chalked off on the basis they did it last year).

I'm more curious if they influence bookers of the smaller stages... we're a drop in the ocean for the big stages, but if there's 10 or so people on here talking about a particular small act being great... that's a significant proportion of the 50-60 people that might turn up to watch them.

They've still not lowered the height of the urinals so are clearly not paying any attention to me.

Cider plus tip toes, not a good combo.

There are only 2 reasons why you would want them lowering.

Hmm which one is it?

terrific Mardy - really loved 'Terrapin Station' into 'Drums' shows just how influential they were on the scene of psychedelia. 'Throwing Stones' is my new favourite song

I thought it was well filmed, the photos at the end after 'Attics' made me cry - as I realised it's all over.

Though I noted Weir said there would be other stuff in the post match interview.

I liked the fact the audience in the cinema got up and danced, and wore tie die, though I was one of the youngest there.

Surprised how little the whole crowd in the cinema connected - though I was pretty spun out - until 'Truckin' and 'Fade To Grey' from then on it was a party.

At one point an attractive older 'lady with a fan' was dancin' beside me - sweet moment! The look of recognition in her eyes as my mind grasped that fact was brilliant.

Trey did a great job, I loved the way he emulates Jerry in that race to catch up and then overtake.

I'd have loved to have been there though.

yeah, Wier was really nonchalant about it all, that post gig interview made it clear he was just going to keep on doing what he's doing.

They're the only band I can think of where a drum section would have me on the edge of ,my seat, really thrilling stuff.

Absolutely no atmosphere in my cinema, think there was 14 in total there, but fuck me it was so much better than I expected. I loved it.

Just about to start 'So Many Roads' this afternoon

14? Wow! Our cinema was nearly full there were about 14 empty seats - dancing in the aisles, at the back, left and right of the screen - probably a better atmosphere than in the seats at the back in Chicago

I'd have loved Scarlet fire - which is here:

I hope all 80 songs from the 3 concerts are on the DVD.
