Spam much?

But they're promising "all solutions to life"! I'm going to contact them and get them to make tomorrow not Monday - that'll solve one frigging enormous problem for me.

More seriously though, they are a complete pain in the arse. Poor Neil and/or Scotty - they've to clean that lot up.

The best thing to do about spam is just to report the users making the threads. Earlier this year there was a lot of spam on one night and loads of people were complaining about it. There was even a thread made were it too started to make spam posts in the thread just to troll us and they were still there in the morning. Only around 3 people reported it but everyone was moaning about (I'll have to admit I was one of them) but it did nothing. The next time spam occurred loads of people reported it and it was dealt with quickly. So in short just report it and the more people that do it the quicker it will be resolved :)

I always report it, neil/scottie cant possibly spot it all the time.

Just a suggestion, and I dont know if its possible or even something Neil would want. I would be quite happy to be a "cleaner" if you want Neil? some kind of "mini mod". I dont necessarily want the responsibility of being a mod, but I am on here V early almost every day, and if I had the relevant permissions and it was easy/quick I can quite happily delete any spam threads that have appeared.

Who is to say you would not delete the threads of those on here you have disagreements with but? ;) "With great power comes................."

It was discussed before and Neil was set against it.  I can understand why, tbh, I've been an admin and mod on forums before and while some are just fine, plodding along and doing what's needed some turn into utter dicks.  Never underestimate the draw of an epenis.

As I said, I would be happy to provide a service, this forum was basically unreadable from when I got home yesterday until a few hours ago. I could clean up the spam at 5am 'ish most mornings. I wouldn't even need anyone else to be aware I carried out the role, and certainly wouldn't require a mod/admin label in my avatar etc. I'm getting a bit old for knob waving tbh.

The offer is there Neil.

The other option - which I think I suggested before, and I think Neil didnt like, would be to need your account verifying before you could start posting. I reckon once the bots know they can flood a forum, it might only get worse.

I didn't bother reporting it as it was on the weekend that this always happens so I assumed it wouldn't get picked up till Monday anyway - do you have to open the post to report it, and does that get read by the bot as a success?

(excuse my ignorance I'm old)

I find most ads counter productive.  As a matter of principle I now ignore anything that has to do with Pharrel Williams.  As for spam, it's irritating and like others would be happy to help with cleaning up.

Online ads are such a fine line these days, the majority are like you said probably a detriment to their own business.

I despise the tailored stuff as well.
