i only listen via iplayer but gilles peterson's show has been a solid staple for me for best part of a year. A nice mix of jazz/worldwide/hiphop/electronic, I learn something new every week.

 

For more the electronic stuff I like nemone's electric wonderland and mary anne hobbs can be good. of course craig charles' show as well. and tom ravenscroft. basically all the weekend/evening stuff!

What does everyone think of the man-rock radio X rebrand? Death throws of a dying company?

Dreadful news. I know there's a gap in the mainstream market between Radio One and Radio Two but this is a horrible attempt to fill it.

I love 6 music and flip between that and 5 live when listening to the radio.  I am in the process of choosing a new car at the moment and so glad that the vast majority come with DAB so I can access it whilst on the move (as well as better reception for 5 Live and other stations)

I'm pretty sure the demographics of Xfm and 6-music listeners is pretty much the same.. The whole Radio X rebrand is just being very explicit about it..

The demographics may be similar, though I have no way of knowing, but I'd always assumed X to be mainly mainstream indie. I'm not a listener though, and their new roster hasn't persuaded me to change from 6, which to these indie-averse ears at least tries to offer a broader range.

I listen to 6music all day every day. The playlist is a heavy part of every daytime show.

If it wasn't it would be driving me up the wall a little less.

Though ear-bleeding would have been more contextually correct, especially if there'd been more Radio 1 involved.

R6 is amazing if you don't listen to a lot of it, think we can agree on that, but eventually anything with a playlist will get repetitive. I'm currently training up Deezer and wheneverthefuck i finish thinking of different musics i've enjoyed in the past to favourite gonna see what happens when I hit flow. It's already chucked up some pretty nice recommendations - can really see this kind of intelligent streaming being the be-all-end-all of long-play listening away from albums. Just gimme a big OLD <--------------> NEW slider I can play with.
