also proves that the info saying R/L got them as an exclusive was bollocks which was the main reason some people thought they'd be bumped up to sub

There wasn't info saying they'd got them as that, it was they wanted them as that and someone thought it might well happen but didn't say defo. No higher than 3rs at Reading.

Yeah I think the best thing to have done would be to just plan to phone in sick as soon as you found out you'd fucked up, as would be hard to get time off this close to the event and once you ask for it then they know you were lying when you'd phone in sick.Is there anyone from HR you could speak to and explain your situation to? If you were working for a big company you could probably just about get away with it if you complained/begged enough, but if it's just a random office job for a smaller company you're probably stuffed.

I imagine you'd be able to sell the gig tickets on so would at least make that back. Good luck getting any money back from the hotel or the train company though.

Can't call in sick now because I've already put in the request and told my boss about it, I thought letting him know about the situation might make them understand and if it goes to HR and potential disciplinary they can just refer to that. And it's Catfish that we're off to see.

Try to 'sell' your ticket on your Facebook page, stating that you can't go as you can't get time off work.

Get one of your friends to publicly 'buy' your ticket on your page, get more of your mates to say how it's a shame you can't go but they're glad you sold your ticket, then phone in sick when the time comes around. They might have forgotten your request by then if you don't mention it again.

If they do suspect, at least it will add credibility to your denial if you end up in a disciplinary.

Is it legit a festival exclusive? Surprised that Slam Dunk have managed to secure that tbf. It would be good for Shikari's long term prospects to have given both R/L and DL a miss for 2 summers though.

Do you mean 'wouldn't'?

In most cases when it comes to mainstream genres, acts that have been around a while and start headlining the smaller festivals are ones that have been dumped by the major festies in favour of the new thing. Possible that's the case here?

Not on facebook so that wouldn't work.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing. I thought if I was 100% genuine with them, they'd understand the situation and let me have it off, it's obvious I tried to book it off so it's not like I'm booking it like 2 days before. I'll easily catch up on the work on the two days I booked off which were wrong. I'm thinking about speaking to the MD (it's a fairly small company) who's the one who said no, and see if he understands at all, but unlikely he will, out of principle.

At the gig they did in Plymouth, they were checking ID on the gate to combat touts to see if the person who's got the tickets is the named card holder. Apparently this is happening for all Catfish gigs, so unlikely to even be able to sell it. I might just go in, catch the end of the gig and miss the support, and just possibly go in the next day hungover - only problem is being legal to drive in the morning!

The article EFests have put up detailing Enter Shikari headlining Slam Dunk states that it is a UK Festival Exclusive performance, so I guess that counts them out of R&L. I apologise for the past couple of weeks of insisting that they could sub  One day...

It actually looks like it could just mean that particular set will only be at Slam Dunk

Chances of the following?

The Black Keys, The Prodigy, Manic Street Preachers, Weezer, Primal Scream, Dinosaur Jr, The Offspring, Jack White or whatever his current project is

All festival favourites that are long overdue a return.

Don't think you'll see any of them on the lineup next year i'm afraid

I think it's good as it makes them less over-exposed at those festivals, which should help them long-term. Although I do think a lot of people will have taken notice of them failing to sell out Ally Pally and Hevy getting canned with them as the headliner.

Black Keys don't appear to be active atm, hopefully be back 2018 though.

With The Prodigy, have to imagine they'd have been booked for this year or last year if they were going to be booked on this album cycle. Doubt they'll be touring next summer.

Manics and Primal Scream surely aren't playing R&L ever again. I don't know much about Dinosaur Jr, aren't they like alternative rock from the 80s? No way that'd fit in there.

There's definitely potential for Weezer to be booked, would say there's a reasonable chance of that but not overly likely.

No idea about The Offspring's status but could see them in the slot Good Charlotte got this year if they are booked at some point.

Jack White would be better suited elsewhere I think as well these days. I don't think he's made enough of an impact as a solo act to demand a sub slot, but his fee would probably mean that's where he'd have to be put (at least).

They've never really gone away long enough to become a rarity as they still play a helluva lot of shows but the shows becoming album-in-full at small-ish festival and support act for band that leapfrogged you, it sticks out as a band that might have already peaked, which might explain the absence after their house band days. I dunno tho, I'm not too wise on them to really say and they're considered a big 'get' by Slam Dunk still.

If those 8 bands were announced I genuinely wouldn't care who else was on the line-up, seen 'me all before but would love to see them all again.

The Offspring are too big to headline the lock up, they'd be on main stage or NME

Ah I don't know a lot about that scene tbh, I assumed the two of them were a similar size. If anything I thought Good Charlotte were bigger as they have more hits that spring to mind but I'll take your word!

The prodigy said it was their final album and they'll just tour from now but I don't think they'll be active next summer

They're a massive headliner for Slam Dunk, absolutely. It's a very big deal that they've got them, especially for this '10 year celebration'. For the record, Rou Reynolds has said that they aren't going to be playing the album from start to finish as it is cliché, and made a point that they're doing it because they want to, as they will never make music like Take To The Skies again because they want to continue pushing boundaries.

I don't think they've peaked at all and I don't think they're being forgotten by R&L. Personally, I think they will sub on their next album and I do think that they could headline one day. It might not be anytime soon, but one day they will get there.
