Pukkelpop 2016

As much as I like LCD, I'm not convinced about their headline status either. A lot of the younger crowd won't have really heard of them and, let's be honest, that's the main demographic the festival is aiming at now. Dance closer is a good shout as they're too big for the Marquee. If the organisers are serious about responding to the criticism then they need to have at least 2 from Muse, Kings of Leon and The Cure. They're all proper headliners as the others we've mentioned fall into either 'sub' or 'dance closer' categories.

I know this is the first time it's been billed as four days but I think the set up will be the same as last year - just the dance corner open on Wednesday night. I hope they beef it up a bit though by having bigger name DJs in the Boiler and maybe someone like Pendulum in the Dance Hall.

Bit strange why they haven't announced any headliners as that's obvioulsy what initially draws a lot of people in. It's no secret that Muse are around this summer so, if they have got them, can't see why they would hold back?

Don't think the Foals date at MS Docklands has been confirmed but if it's Saturday 20th then that 100% rules them out.

On the Foals website, most of the festivals they're doing have a date that coincides with the first day of the festival. Doesn't look like its been confirmed for any of those yet.

I don't think 4 days is out of the question. Logistics wise you'd imagine it'd be Frequency, PKP, LL then MS Dockville in that order.

Wow.

Weirdly enough I was gonna suggest Rihanna and the Weeknd to be potential Pukkelpop material yesterday (honestly!) until I saw the Boutique show.

Well if that's the pop day sorted, it's a very decent start in my opinion and at least she's a big name and will put on a big show. Rules out Justin Bieber hopefully.

Unless of course this is the flavour for the rest of the festival.....then we're fucked.

Does anyone think that Muse could headline the Wednesday?

Reason behind my thinking is that if they want to make it into a proper 4 dayer (selling day tickets for this day as well) then to guarantee a big crowd it'd have to be a big band who'd have their own massive following. They could still start it late and have the Boiler room and Dance Hall opening parties but could have the main stage on from about 6 with a couple of support bands and then Muse as the main.

They'd make money via the extra day tickets and drinks sales without having to lay out a full days line up over 8 stages.

Just a thought.

Aaaand, don't hold your breath

http://m.eonline.com/news/741556/rihanna-s-anti-tour-has-been-pushed-back-because-of-production-problems

Tour delayed amid rumours of melt down.

That aside, good booking really. Looks like a gift from Boutique though, doesn't it. Belgian festivals looking out for each other. Not my bag but a huge star name.

There is one thing for sure: Rihanna is a last minute booking due to Werchter Boutique cancelation ofr security reasons, so Pukkelpop had the chance to book her and they did it. They have announced her now because there is a special presale for people who already had a Boutique ticket. so thursday tickets will be sold out so quick (probably before general sale starts).

So, if Pukkelpop spend a lot of money in a last minute booking make me think a theory: Neil said that Reading had problems in the negociations with their last headliner (maybe Green Day or G'n'R?) and they had to make a plan-b with another co-healine structure (Biffy Clyro and Fall Out Boy). Is it posible that this same headliner was pre-booked by Frequency and Pukkelpop but it decided not to tour Europe in 2016 and that's the reason why Frequency didn't announce any big name in their first announcement and Pukkelpop have found a last minute oportunity to programm a big name topping the bill on thursday (the day when PKP tends to place its bigger headliner)?

I don't think they want to grow to a full-on fourth day. Last year already proved us how tough it can be to fill out the big names for three days, let alone four. And Thursday already requires the biggest headliner to sell out as a weekday.

Well I wasn't expecting to wake up to that this morning! Echo much of what has already been said - not really my thing but a good piece of business by the festival. When one of the biggest names on the planet drops in your lap you'd be a complete fool to turn them down and say 'thanks, but no thanks'. Nice to see the festivals working together - not something that would happen here of course. She clearly wasn't their first choice, which many of the angry people on social media don't seem to have worked out yet. Guess that doesn't change the outcome though.

Interesting what you say about the possible Thursday headliner situation johny but I wonder how recently all this Rihanna business came about? You'd like to think PKP have had their Thursday headliner for a while so if whoever that is cancelled lke you said then fair enough. But if they didn't and PKP have been able to do a bit of shifting around.....
