Ah yes, the place you were forced into by the people who want to be sociable.     The point you're missing is that everyone is happier now that smoking is being nudged out of public places. 

There’s campsite advisors just inside gate A that should be able to tell you where there’s spaces. Lime kiln used to have reasonable spaces on Thursday but not sure nowadays. Sites on the periphery will also have spaces that might allow you all together

You still have to be organised enough to be in the queue before 9am on ticket day and stay online the whole time. It rewards interested parties more than disinterested parties. If it was a proper ballot so many people would enter for the hell of it, who otherwise wouldn't bother actually trying for tickets on ticket day.
