Mercury Prize 2015

So I don't know if anyone is interested and I'm not sure if there is already a topic but I thought i'd start one because there has been quite a few great albums this year. As much as I love Foals and Maccabees album I think Jamie XX could win it. His album is incredible. What are people's thoughts?

I agree about Jamie XX, really good album and I can see him winning it. The likes of Florence, Foals, Young Fathers, Everything Everything etc will probably be nominated too.

This. Although if it were best on just the quality of music, Young Fathers would win it again. I actually made the decision not to listen to Dead purely because it won last year's prize, so I thought it'd be shit. Stopped clocks, twice a day, etc. Errors and The Twilight Sad both deserve some recognition. Public Service Broadcasting might make the shortlist, but I doubt it's a winner.

I can imagine a few others who should be nominated such as Boxed In and George Fitzgerald, I could see LA Priest getting a nomination too

Would like to see Gwenno get the nod though I think it's unlikely given the album is completely in Welsh.

unless i'm forgetting about somebody, reckon Jamie xx has this in the bag (although always so hard to predict these things as sometimes the judges just go the total opposite way you'd expect)

Slaves won't get on it but their album is my favourite of the year. Drenge deserve some love too. Everything Everything and Jamie XX should be front runners.

Hard to see past Jamie XX for the winner. Surprised Everything Everything weren't announced given they seemed to be one of the favourites. 

I've only heard 5 of the albums nominated of which Florence's is the best but I'd rather see Soak or Jamie XX win it as they'd benefit more from the exposure and publicity.

Yeah I enjoy Flo's the most out of all those, but she could do with winning it the least. A real underdog like C Duncan or Eska getting it would be nice.

I really like gaz coombes' but again hhe's not in need of the publicity really. 

Out of those albums on shortlist I think its the one I like the best!  (But that says alot about the list if you ask me!)

I used to think I knew about music and always used to knod my head sagely at both the list and the winner, but in recent years it's clear I haven't got a clue anymore.  I thought flo's album was the weakest of her 3 for me, I liked what I heard on the first few listens but it was rapidly forgotten.

What makes you think you should base what is good or not on the Mercury Prize?

I honestly don't, I'm just saying it used to seem a good barometer for releases across music each year to me and that I've got older and less aware of current trends.  It has certainly championed some great albums and particularly debut albums that have helped artists that might otherwise have gone under the radar.

I'd love to see Aphex Twin win it.  I didn't get on with the C Duncan album, but when I heard it I thought it had Mercury Prize winner written all over it.

There are a couple of cracking tunes on it, but a few filler tracks.
