Any advice will be greatly appreciated And it's ticket day next week how the hell did that happen!! Good luck all
musky
Don't even think about getting a turntable with built in speakers. Mounting devices that are designed to create a lot of vibration to equipment that is intended to reproduce the slightest movement is a really, really bad idea. Your vinyl collection will thank you for it as well. Project's offerings have been a standard recommendation for years, but they start at around £150. If that's too much your best bet would be to look at older stuff -the Sansui SR222 and Dual 505 (Mk 2 or later) spring to mind. Do check the kind of usage to cartridge has had though, or you'll have to budget for a new one.
Bisque
Buy separates. imo I think the amp & speakers are more important as only a true audiophile will tell the difference between an RCA plugged iPod vs. a Rega/Clearaudio deck, but you probably have a set up already. Have a good look on Gumtree/eBay & cross compare with reviews on Amazon. Technics are solid, function over fashion. I'm a bit of a Sony fanboy as they are cheap second hand & they used to do a line of ugly chav speakers that love to roll with bass & for shooting noobs on MW2 with a silenced ACR. Check the diamond on the stylus as they can cost a bit depending on model (or did when I tried scratching Scat Man on my fathers rig)
willutalk
I have a classic JBL turntable! It's beautiful. This goes into a great modern Yamaha amp and then to a pair of Monitor Audio speakers! The sound is excellent. The resonance is perfect and the presence is mere class. The amp was something like 200 pounds and the speakers were 250. Dunno how much the turntable is as it was mums. The setup is great, and also allows me to play music from my Mac and also is pretty nice with creating music via Logic!
wilem
I have a Pro-ject Essentials II, little phono box e amp and some audio pro speakers linked up to it - pretty good starter sound system

Yoghurt on a Stick
I have no idea about what turn table or speakers to recommend, but came across this which may be of interest to those using vinyl;
Yoghurt on a Stick
Seems like an extravagant way to eliminate static?! I think it's for getting rid of greasy finger print marks, dust etc. Maybe one for those who are buying second hand vinyl records that haven't been treated that well. Wooderson
Id be wary of using the wood glue option on anything you're not prepared to throw in the bin afterwards.

I admit that it would be prudent to check this out on an old 'disposable' record before trying it on anything valuable.
