Pet Shop Boys late at night sounds good to me mate.

I saw the Pet Shop Boys at the Savoy Theatre when they were doing a residency in 1997. I have to say, they were bloody great. Apropos of nothing, Neil Hannon of The Divine Comedy was also in the audience that night.

Suspect he's referring to Public Service Broadcasting. Pet Shop Boys opposite New Order seems weird.

I've been caught out by this before - perhaps we should stop using the initials PSB for either

Its like when someone shouts easty in the pub and they are actually after my little brother :-)

No, you're just unlikely to bump into any posters from this forum.

Sorry, they said there was a mix up with the order so they've looked in the '92 cupboard and are sending you BoyzIIMen, 2unlimited and Billy Ray Cyrus instead.

At least one of those acts has played before, if my memory serves me correctly! Yeah, good point. Every era has its turds. Then again, Billy Ray inspired some very fine work by Bill Hicks so, every cloud.

I don't get it people on here like the bands that have influenced the likes of Catfish and the Bottlemen and the Sherlocks. Is it because people on here are just too cool and that's why they like so much 80's and early 90's stuff because it's cool to like that era apparently.

The world of music is full of snobbery.

It's what makes it fun, saying "I think that band is shit". :P

I do jest. I realise that Glastonbury is for everyone. I just find it funny that people on here love some bands but hate bands that are similarly influenced. Like people who say they love the Beatles but hate Oasis or vice versa.

Surely people don't just like music if it's new sounding? Or am I the only person who likes music because it's similar to other music I like.

erm ... cream and chaff. ;)

I like good music. I'm less keen on poor imitations.

Maybe that's just me.

Comparing Oasis to The Beatles...

Absolutely this. We all undersrtand that like all art, it's subjective, that everybody's opinion is equally valid but also, and most importantly, the music I like is great, the music everyone else likes is shit. This is the great truth about music.

I genuinely can't see any comparison. The Beatles still sound astonishingly fresh, progressive and boundary pushing. Tomorrow Never Knows is, even in 2016, the sound of the future (And I'm no Beatles fan, really). Oasis were sounding dated by about August 2004.

No that's me as well. There's plenty more bands that are much worse than the bands being slated as rubbish on here. Having said that I have always had a dislike for Muse and Radiohead which many would consider to be the best ever. Ah music is all about opinions. Shame I don't understand some and others don't understand mine.

I can't as much as other people have and will no doubt continue to do so but the fact that Noel and Liam have constantly gone on about how much they ripped off the Beatles suggests that they were heavily influenced and wanted to sound like them. I know Oasis wasn't at all original but for me not sounding original or current doesn't make a good band. A good band to me is a band that make their own music, play instruments and write mostly their own songs. I don't care if they sound 60 years too late or 60 years too early and at the same time I don't like quite a few bands and have no particular reason for not liking them. Equally there's genres of music that cover those basic standards and yet I dislike everything in that genre.

To put it as succinctly as I can: I like music that demonstrates creativity, and there isn't much of that on show in the bands you're talking about.

Obviously I don't sit down analysing the creativity that went into a particular song, I just like what I like mostly through instinct in the same way that you do. I couldn't care less what instruments they play or who wrote the song.

Just because a band can as you say make their own music, play instruments and write mostly their own songs it doesn't mean they're any good. Just look at Muse as an example, they make their own music, they play instruments, and Matt Bellamy writes most, if not all their songs yet they are fucking awful.

Like I said I don't like everything that fits those basic standards for example I also can't stand Muse.

I don't care what instruments they play either as long as they play instruments. The writing their own song is more of a reference to pop acts that sing nothing that they have written before especially worse when it's songs we have all heard a million times before from a million other acts. Because that is definitely not being creative.

What about The Chemical Brothers? They don't play instruments but they're clearly heavily influenced by The Beatles as they use Tomorrow Never Knows for the intro to all of their gigs
