Chris Lfc
Was wondering this because its making me panic a little suddenly. I bought the glastonbury coach tickets and recently i bought a 4 man popup tent, i'm just wondering if there is some sort of limit in size or bags you're suppose to take? Thanks. Spindles
Most people have a rucksack, tent and mat at the bare minimum and some take a trolley full. Personally I take big rucksack with tent, mat and sleeping bag tied on and a smaller rucksack/sportsbag with some cans/other shit in. Coach drivers will always do their best to squeeze everything in and not too many people take the piss with the amount they bring.

My tactic was always to get there early. Be at the front of the queue. People do take the piss and I've seen a couple of occasions where some have had to have all their gear on top of them in their seat for the whole journey because the hold under the coach is crammed full. I guess you're coming from Liverpool, that's a hell of a long way to have to do that. Alternatively, if you have a mate who's driving, ask them to take some stuff for you if that's possible
warriormonk
Took the coach for the first time last year. Most passengers kept to the rule of rucksack/sleeping mat/tent in the hold and one bag hand luggage. The hold was bursting at the seams. I always travel light, but I got the impression that the driver would not have welcomed crates of tinnies, trolleys etc.
sheffieldlady
I've never seen a coach driver leave anything. We take a tent, rucksack reach and a booze bag. We also have a folding trolley. So long as you're not taking the piss. You will be fine. Last year there was luggage up on the seats / in the isle but that was because the two people arrived late! Curlygirl
I have been on seetickets coaches and travelled light, but others weren't so fortunate. The driver made them leave a trolley full of cider and lager by the side of the road!!
stardustjunkie
I've been on a coach where a group of young lads have been told to leave their trolley of booze behind. At the end of the day, most people would love to take a trolley of booze and go by coach. If everyone did it then everyone would have to leave it at the side of the road or sit with it on their laps. The guidelines/rules are there so that everyone can fit the essentials in the hold and I think it does annoy people when a few take the piss and start loading on booze. I travel by coach every year and take one rucksack with a roll mat and sleeping bag strapped on to the outside (tightly) and one small tent bag, but I don't really drink so I guess it doesn't bother me. One year I took a trolley with nothing on it but I explained to the coach driver that I have back issues and it's simply to help me carry my stuff at the other end. I explained that it folds down small and the wheels come off. If it doesn't fit in the hold I will be more than happy to sit with it on the coach. He was understanding and tucked it away down the side of the hold. I guess it depends on the driver but just keep in mind that there are 50 odd rucksacks and tents to get in the hold before any extras. With all that being said, I would recommend coach travel to anyone. I think it's brilliant and I love being able to sleep the whole way back. Even after the journey from hell last year which I got a full refund for, I still went with coach this year.
kaytee...
They say one rucksack and a tent each but everyone always has more. They wont let you carry alcohol on board so bear in mind that has to go under the bus. They can be very strict. I got the national express and the two guys at the front of the queue werent going the festival but getting off at Birmingham. They each had just one suitcase but the driver said theh were heavier than would fit on the coach so made them wait til all the glasto goers got on. I've seen people try to get on with massive trailers packed with stuff, seriously how to you pick that up and out it on the coach? So if youre taking a trolley I'd keep it folded til you get off then load it for thr long walk.

Fully Agree - I have seen this happen on a Crew Coach ' even although they are well warned before hand not to bring loads of Cans ' - the only difference was people could leave stuff and it would be brought down on the last coach { which is more for staff who miss their booked Coach } which of course is not a option for many. its all down to common sense - being a old hand I make a point of arriving early - this is the Crew Coach pick up point in London - that contains camping gear for three of us - if its really tight it is possible to slip off the trolley but most times there is room. each year we take these shots just to prove we are at the front of the queue although its now well organised - you should see it fill up and just as the coaches drive in there will be 250 to 300 hanging about although by that time people will be allocated which coach they get on and they will be standing in groups. The Coach coordinator will pull up someone if they look as if they are over the limit - some will have trays of cans standing six foot tall so they are well taking the piss. one thing is for sure ' if I was a Coach driver I would be making sure that my Coach did not end up being overloaded '
ledwards
I travelled on the national express coach last year from Liverpool (not part of the coach ticket package but booked separately) We arrived at 3am and the queue was huge, I think a few people with different time slots had merged into one and it was just first come first served basis. There was no particular limit on what we could put in the hold, but staff told us we had to remove everything from our trolleys and fold them down, to the despair of many groups who had duct taped crates of alcohol to them. This was the same situation for people who had tied sleeping bags/tents to rucksacks - so all the bags were thrown together, all the sleeping bags/tents and all the trolleys. This was to be fair to the crew at national express, to ensure everyone's stuff would fit on - and to be honest the hold was full to the brim. I advise you put your name on everything, just in case this happens. Once we got to Glastonbury the driver pulled everything out of the hold and it was a free for all. Unfortunately a girls rucksack had got (presumably stolen) due to this, as there was nothing left in the hold at the end, so one bag couldn't have been mistaken for another. I advise be vigilant with your belongings, and sit at the front of the coach so you get first pick of your stuff.

Just to say I've travelled a couple of times on the coach and that was ok, just wanted to add that as the coach was entirely full and therefore not everyone can sit at the front. As long as like travelling on any coach you put your stuff on/watch it being put on and keep an eye out for it at the other end you should be ok. stardustjunkie
I think that was a very unfortunate situation and I really wouldn't be too worried about someone taking your rucksack. As long as you're alert and get off the coach as quickly as you can, you'll be able to watch everything get pulled out and make a beeline for your own stuff. Everyone takes quite a while pulling their rucksacks on and getting themselves ready so none of it happens very quickly! I do feel sorry for the girl though, that can't be a fun start to the festival.

No doubt an isolated incident, just something to keep at the back of your mind - yeah she was gutted, festival staff did take her through the queue to look for it, that was the last I saw of her though. I do hope she got it back and if it was intentional then I hope the offender was refused entry. If they've got the balls to take a rucksack off the coach when people are watching, then they've got the balls to go in to people's tents.
