Disabled wristbands

I'm hoping someone can help answer a question we have about disabled access.

From what I've read, if you are granted access to the disabled facilities (which we have been) you get a wristband to use the shortcuts, platforms etc. and this includes a +1.

Can the +1 use these facilities without the disabled person? In this instance I am the +1 but I would benefit massively from using the shortcuts as I'm currently signed off work, been in hospital, undergoing investigations etc etc and basically been prodded and poked a lot :) I struggled last year but know I wouldn't be granted access on my own as I don't actually have a diagnosis yet. I know I wont be glued to my friend who has been given the access all weekend so there are times when I'll be wandering on my own. I assume I would also have some kind of wristband as her +1 but will it be the same as hers or a different one? Will I be able to use these facilities without my friend?

We don't feel the need to use the disabled campsite as the biggest benefit will be walking shorter distances and also being able to put down bags and sit down properly on the disabled platforms, so it is only the shortcuts and platform I'm wondering about.

If anyone has any experience of using these facilities it would be great to hear what you think as it may help us prepare ourselves a bit better.

Thank you!

Your friend will get an additional wristband that enables her to use the platforms and cut throughs. You will be given a Personal Assistant pass that goes round your neck which will allow you onto the platforms and to use to cut throughs only when you are accompanying the person with the wristband. You will probably get turned away if you try and use it without her.

Thank you. I don't tend to stay with her the whole time but it would help me massively if I could use the shortcuts and platform without her. I can understand why this is the case though and happy to be able to use them for some of the time.

I have a MRI on Thursday and hopefully a diagnosis shortly afterwards. Depending on the diagnosis would it be too late to apply for the access for myself?

as your your friends PA you wont have a ticket so no i dont reckon so .you could try and get a tix in resale then you would both need to apply for PAs and im not sure if there is still time OR and this is your best bed if you have bad news and i hope you dont you could get in touch with clare and see if she can do any thing ....i hope you have all good news and you can just go with your friend ...

as long as you plan things the getting around is not to bad ie from stage to stage and as for the platforms there great but as i found out last year you can be the only one on them hence missing out on the atmosphere of the crowd ......i hate crowds so thought ah well but you do miss out on it lol ....hope this helps

Oh I should've mentioned I already have a ticket :)

Thank you for the advice though - I managed to find my answer on the website. Apparently you can apply for disabled access until the first week in May.

I'm hoping for the best with my back but if it's not the best news then at least I might still be able to go and enjoy Glastonbury if they are able to grant me access to shortcuts and platforms.

Ahh cool, thank you :)

She didn't apply for the disabled campsite, and I wouldn't either. I feel that we wouldn't benefit from the facilities as much as other people would so it would be unfair to take up a spot that someone else would need.

For us it really is a case of walking shorter distances and having the option to sit and put our bags down. I have had back problems for years but it's reached an all time low to the point where I was admitted in to hospital. It could just be something simple that will resolve itself but they had concerns that could potentially affect me for quite a while, if not forever. Fingers crossed it'll resolve itself but if it doesn't it's nice to know that I may not have to give up on the one thing that's keeping me going at the moment!

i can tell you now there is always enough room in DCamping and its great to know every thing is safe its quite at night its great ....

It does sound lovely but I don't think we would benefit anywhere near as much as other people. We're very very happy with reducing the amount our legs and backs have to work though :)

Well we usually camp in Bushy but we may rethink that this year to suit what we need more. I like Bushy because it's not too far from Gate A (coach tickets), it's not too crowded and you can get a decent nights sleep.

Downside is it's a bit of trek through Dance Village to get anywhere.

Thank you! I hope you have an amazing festival too :)

I had another Doctors appointment this afternoon and I've been signed off work for another two weeks. I'm so desperate to go back but the doc wasn't having it :(

I'm checking my post every day in hope that I'll get my consultants appointment but it's not looking promising at the moment. I'm hoping to get a letter this week with an appointment for next week but hey ho.. this is the NHS we're talking about and it is a bank holiday this weekend! The irony of all of this is that I was looking at private healthcare options about a month before I ended up in hospital haha. A&E alone was a 5 hour wait - fortunately I was rushed through but goes to show how overstretched it is.

Good luck with your appointments :)
