I actually quite like Marcus Mumford whenever I've seen him in chat, and I think their "gone-electric" moment yielded a very fun live song in The Wolf.
But aye, cannot say the earlier material was of a vintage that particularly spoke to me.
As well as the things already mentioned - changing drug use, vibe and changes to the areas; another one for me is the fact that people don't hang around their camps anymore. Used to part of the fun getting to know neighbours etc but people now usually seem to prefer milling around the main areas including on Weds/ Thurs... probably a reflection of more happening in the run up to the main stages opening and late at night and the change in vibe generally ie its a lot younger than it used to be.
Also the absence of fires, in camps and also across the festival. I used to love the smell of fires. The festival still provide fire wood, but by Saturday there was still a big pile on the old railway track this year where that would've been gone by midday on the Wednesday 10 years ago. Though the glade have a fire going by the main tent - with a big fence around it.
Discussions between R&L and LP, did take place. Foos pulled out on their own accord, also heard they pulled out of rock en seine + rock nova. Travis logistically didn’t make sense. Apparently discussion with 3 other major acts broke down too, that’s all I know x
I went to see a recording of The Last Leg in 2018 where Mumfords were a guest and I had more fun watching them join a comedy skit than I did hearing them play a song.
